If the alternator is charging when you drive it the problem is probably one or both batteries. It could also be the cables. I had the same problem a few years ago. Check to see if the terminals and cable have corrosion and build-up on them. If not, it's probably the batteries. One thing to beware of however, is if there is a lot of corrosion on the cables you might have to trip them back to good wire and replace the terminals, and the cables are barely long enough as it is. They are also very expensive. When I had my problems and talked about replacing the cables someone here posted that the cable that is notorious for causing the problem is the crossover cable that connects the positive leads on both batteries. It runs across the engine compartment by the radiator. If I remember correctly, when it goes bad it can cause the alternator to either overcharge a battery or not charge it at all. Fortunately, that's the easiest cable to replace. When I had the same problem you had I found that if I charged the battery at night I had no problems starting in the morning, and if I jumped it when it wouldn't start it ran all day without problems.

Well I don't think that is my problem it changes fine and the terminals are clean but thank you for you help I am going to recheck it tomorrow just in case

If the cables and terminals are in good shape I'd say it has to be the batteries. If they are the originals I'd say you did pretty good going 12 years and 230K with them.

Do you mean the starter won't engage or the engine won't fire? Are you hearing clicks? Do the dash lights and other accessories power up?

You sit there for 5 minutes turning the key off and on or off and to start?

Clarify your actions and the results better please.

If you turn the key to start and the starter does not engage either the starter is bad or the ignition switch is bad. something is not powering the starting motor whether it is the ignition switch or the starter relay is the question.
