And really with all the torque management how much and when do we really get all that power?

When you need it most...when the load is moving up a grade.

I know I certainly don't need all the torque in the first few gears when I'm getting going. If TM is what it takes to get the drivetrain to survive while giving loads of torque to keep me moving.....I'm fine with it.

More HP?

Our Cummins can do everything we ask of them. Yes, even my 05. Why on earth do we want more HP? So what if the Powerjoke has more piower, their still a Furd. I dare say 98% of us love our Cummins powered Ram. george

No one is suggesting we don't love our Cummins. I just wanted to know if Cummins would continue the diesel Hp-Tq wars with the other manufacturers.

I'm as much impressed by the exhaust brake on this 2016 as I am the power and torque. Nothing like coming down an 8 percent grade at 26,000lbs and not having to touch the service brakes!

Agreed....but mine almost slows me down too much (I'm towing lighter than you however). I frequently have to ease into the throttle on the downhill to disengage the EB because it sometimes slows me down more than I need.....which in reality, is a pretty good situation to be in I suppose.

Try setting your cruze control on your down hill and see what that does for you.
Friend of mine does this with his D-Max and it works

My understanding of the 2 stage exhaust brake is that when it is on the smart (versus full) exhaust brake setting (green light displayed in the EVIC), that it will hold speed on the downgrades and not go to maximum braking. You're right, though, on the full (amber light displayed in the EVIC) exhaust brake setting, it is very aggressive, especially when not towing!

I'm sure that would work, however, typically when this is an issue (only a minor one at that) is on a twisting, switchback type of descent where cruise would be impractical.

I've actually found the opposite, but I'm willing to bet that could be related to gearing (your 4.10 vs. my 3.42's). When I am not towing and have not engaged T/H mode, I almost wish the braking was a bit stronger. Even when I am not towing and engage T/H, it doesn't make as much of a difference as I thought it would....but when I am towing with T/H and EB activated, it is amazing.

I've wondered if T/H and EB working differently when the truck sees a trailer is plugged in.....or if it is simply a matter of my more cautious driving style when I have a trailer. Who knows, whatever the case, I love how this truck works.

I like the low end torque of the I6 ISB. If i was having to wind out a (duramax or PS) V8 at 2800-3000 RPM instead of pulling steady at 1700-2200 RPM, i doubt i would enjoy the drive. I think i would feel tired (driving fatigue) just from hearing the engine turning so.fast. That's how i felt driving my dad's V-10 gasser.

Going down miles of 14% grades was very controlled with a combined 32,950#

Taking off on the same grade was mo problem with the Aisin and 4.10's.

Longer Stroke better low end torque less parts much more internal mass. Compare the pistons, wrist pins. etc . Lift the hood of any big rig built after 1990 and you will see an inline 6 they are built for pulling and longevity. End of story

Agreed! All the farm tractors and big rigs use in line 6's.
V-8 is ok the haul snacks from the local store but........ :D

Who cares about the power, their bells and whistles are going to set a new bench mark. Cameras everywhere etc etc. Would be nice to turn on ones turn signal and have a lane change camera show up on the 8.4 screen. I added a cam in the grill and 4.3 display to aid in parking, would be nice to have that available on the 8.4. SNOKING

People will pick the Aisin over the 68rfe or G56 for a bit more advertised torque and HP. But I've never really needed more than my 660/350
