Does the "bark" sound like a whooosh ing sound? If that is the case, I can "bark " my turbo in 5 of 6 gears!:--) the only mods that I have so far are a BHAF and a 4" exhaust.
jvan - that whooshing sound is the same phenomenon but at a MUCH MUCH lesser degree. A non harmful degree. I love that sound.
The "bark" is a (let's see if I can spell how it sounds): ps ps pss pss psss psss real fast. That's how it sounds on someone's truck from outside. The pitch of the ps ps starts real high and lowers during the pss pss as the turbo's rpm is coming down. This ps ps noise is like a cr@p load of the whooshes (you're hearing) all rammed together, back to back, in a time span of about 1 second. That's causing extremely rapid, extreme pressure changes on the turbo with the turbo at HIGH rpm, as described previously in this topic. I heard this noise A LOT at the sled pulls at Thunder in Muncie '02. This is my understanding of the difference between the whooshing and barking. I may not be 100% correct on my understanding.
I know this is an old post, but I am getting "bark" ie pressure surges when the transmission shifts from 2nd to 3rd (O/D out) from the normal transmission shift changing the engine speed with a heavy (13k) 5er in tow and accelerating like getting onto an interstate.
Using foot control is about the only way I can manage it and sometimes I miss the exact shift point.
