Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) window screen in front of radiator???

I've had my screen on since a trip to Montana many years ago. Black seems like a plastic material. I stopped at a hardware store somewhere on that trip, tossed the fabric over the radiator support and plastic tied it to the two rubber hood supports. Never touched but to shake off the mess. Cleaning has been rare since the mighty cummins does well to keep it self cleaned due to that little vibration we have. .

If you tow you most likely do not want to do that. For that matter, why would anyone want to restrict the amount of air that can flow thru the radiator. You put on big air intakes, fuel line etc, then you want to block air to radiator. Put you shop vac on blowing and hold the screen up and feel the lack of air on the other side. With some talking about heat killing the VP44, why? SNOKING

Not starting a war, but heres how i see it. . If you dont have a screen, then the bugs and all that get caught in your transmission cooler, condensor, intercooler, and radiator, and over a little time build up. Well all this build up is SURE to cause air restriction, and I would bet will be more so then a screen. So a lil less air flow all the time is better then next to nothing when it all plugs, and the screen is VERY easy to clean, unlike the rest of it. Just my . 02

I found a window screen at Loews that was already framed in wood and that was expandable and fits our radiators just fine, been in there since truck was new and I tow 36ft Triumph frequently with now problems with heat and I live in the central valley. 6Naline01

Been running a piece of black nylon screen on both the 99 as well as the 05 since new.

Dittos to what they said. Framed screen for 5 years. Tow 36 ft 3 slideouts. Race at the track with edge comp and 100 hp injectors. Never an overheat problem at all. Even towing in 100+ degree weather. BTW. Home depot or Lowes sell a screen kit that has a "cut your own size" frame. Makes for a more custom fit and looks neater with the hood up. A little black spray paint before installing on the frame and you can't see it through the grille. Perfect.

I've run screen on my rads since 95, 13PSI caps too, never had to clean or replace any of them.



Here is the issue, some "engineer" measured airflow through a new radiator, then the "engineer" added a window screen and detected a decrease in airflow. Ya think?????????



The real life situation is NO ONE drives around with a perfectly new & clean radiator, they all have bugs in them. The bugs cause a decrease in airflow too.



The real test would be between a radiator with 50k miles of bugs stuck in the fins vs a radiator with 50k miles and a window screen without any bugs stuck in the fins.
