A friend of mine’s favorite thing to do on a road trip is to catch his wife asleep, run up close behind a truck, hit the brakes hard, and yell. He said once he saw a road tractor being towed backwards by a wrecker and did it. He and his wife are constantly pulling practical jokes on each other. If I did something like that my wife would do terrible, unspeakable things to me in my sleep...

That is so gracious of your wife. :) Mine wouldn't wait that long for the "first" shot. I "may" get a microsecond of a dirty look, then the wild kitty shred-him-where-he-is eternity ensues... Maybe for the second, third, and fourth shots later on she'll catch me asleep...She's relentless. o_O:eek::D

So.... totally not the right answer. But Rain X. It takes time and elbow grease every other month but dang is it hard to beat. Especially in the crap winter months when the liquid calcium chloride is aplenty and all wipers do when it's zero degrees is smear the love around.

As I have mentioned before I have had a professional film installed with a new windshield, I think it was made by PPG the same brand as the new windshield. They convinced me and said they would remove the film if I did not like it. I commuted in the Puget Sound area for well over 30 years at over 1,000,000 miles logged. It was fine with light to heavy rain but when it was misting I had to hit the wipers at times and that's where the issue was with VERY poor visibility with a film present every time. YES new Quality US Made MOPAR refills.

They tried to physically remove their application but it would NOT come off. YEP they replaced the windshield. Never have or never will use Rainex or any type of windshield treatment.

We used to put it on the windscreens of our helicopters. Even though the UH-1 had wipers the pilots were threatened with getting their hands cut off it they were used. At the time, the windscreens were plexiglass. Later on they were retrofitted with glass windshields but RainX worked better. The smaller aircraft remained plexiglass and had no wipers anyway.

It definitely takes patience to apply. If you don't buff it out well enough it leaves a glare that will drive you nuts. With all the snot on the roads here 4-5 months out of the year its well worth the elbow grease to me. Helps the salt spray just bead right off. Without it wipers just kind of smear it around, and the places the wipers don't contact become difficult to see out of with oncoming head lights or a bright sun.

The key to RainX is to apply, buff, and then apply again (as the instructions indicate). I've found a microfiber cloth is best for applying and buffing.
