Need Advice: Towing I-70 westbound out of Denver

I don’t disagree with anything said especially the weld lack of penetration. Or that it shouldn’t have failed with those skids on it. Was just pointing it out.

I own 2 dc trailers. A10k dumper as well as an LPX equipment trailer at 14900 gvw it is an 18 footer. Both of them are bumper pulls. A bit short but the spaces I have to take it in make anything larger much harder to deal with. Mine don’t get used on a daily basis like a commercial outfit would do but so far so good. Will definitely be paying more attention to them

I love the excuse! Clearly he thinks that with a "big" truck, he has the right of way! He was clearly distracted when entering the roundabout. I have a dash cam for the opposite issue, cars cutting me off not realizing that I can't stop as fast as they can. I'm a big fan of that they should require you to drive a 26K truck when getting your license! That way, you at least understand what it takes to stop it! JM2C. Stay safe out there!

"You could see that I was in a hurry and that I was driving real fast and that my truck is real big and it was going to be hard to stop..., why didn't you yield? Are you crazy!? What's the matter with you!?"

That's been on the local news here, down in the oven part of Arizona. But the television images were nowhere near as good. If that's the incident I think it is, the haul driver was taken away for DUI.

Local guy moves to road side gravel pull outs until his time limit is up.

Uhhh. I think the rig's time is up, full stop. Was he using the hitch ball on the step bumper?

Looks like the F-150 survived better than the Ram. I would guess the truck might be a box delete the way it folded up and not a Cab Chassis.

The size of the frame at the cab looks to be P/U.

I just can’t wrap my head around these people hitting emergency vehicles on the shoulder of the road. Surely the trooper had his lights on.

Not defending the guy who hit him, but I’ve seen plenty of law enforcement vehicles parked dark where they shouldn’t be and are putting themselves and others at unnecessary risk.

Yes, I agree. They’ll park with two wheels over the line, supposedly “protecting” themselves and who they have pulled over. Then, they have a whole array of super bright lights flashing blinding you from seeing anything else.

BUT, that should give you enough warning to give them PLENTY of room.

I would guess the truck driver was lucky, in the fact that the truck frame rails, jammed into a trailer deck cross member and saved the trailer from sheering off the top of the truck cab. For sure, the goose neck hitch is not doing anything, its toast.

At least the load was properly secured, everything stayed on perfectly fine.

And just to be fair, he could have had a medical problem as well, many people have strokes and such going down the road. Happens more often then people think of.

I try not to judge without knowing all details, I've been to long on the road and have seen to many accidents that looked clear and were exactly the opposite way around in reality.

And last but not least, accidents can happen to everyone, we are all just human, nobody is perfect.

**Update: April 3, 2025**
The injured trooper was released from the hospital on Wednesday night and is recuperating at home.
The driver of the Dodge Ram has been identified as Andrii Mykhailivk of Brooklyn, New York.
-- End Update --
At approximately 7:30 p.m. today, April 2, 2025, an Arizona Highway Patrol State Trooper was parked on the right shoulder of westbound I-10 in the area of milepost 117 in Buckeye. The trooper was finishing paperwork from a non-injury collision report he had just taken and was parked approximately 20 feet off the highway on the dirt shoulder. A white Dodge Ram 3500 truck, towing a vehicle trailer with three vehicles on board, traveled off right and off the highway and collided with the trooper’s vehicle at a significant speed. As a result of the collision, the trooper’s vehicle was pushed further off right approximately 60 feet.
The trooper was transported with possible head injuries and is currently being evaluated at a hospital to determine the extent of his injuries.
The driver of the Dodge Ram was the only occupant of the at-fault vehicle and was uninjured; however, the driver has been arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol. He is currently being processed for DUI and related felony charges.
