It was the other way around for me. I had a brand new chevy (2002)with about 500 miles on the OD pooping out anti-freeze. Every product has it problems. I have 30,000 carefree miles on my 2004. Good luck to you, hope DC figures out this minor problem. coobie :)

For the record, we went through this electric vs. manual thing a while back in another thread, either here or over on DTR, and NONE of us that had electric shifts had had a SINGLE problem. However, there is always an exception, and I feel your pain about the wrecker - I'll get to that in a second.

FYI, I too once said "I will never own an electric switch" but, now that I have one, it works GREAT! Engages MUCH faster than the manual shifter on my 97 2500. I don't think I could ever go back now.

As to the wrecker - my truck was on one at 5400 miles, when the belt shredded. So, I have been there, done that. I really don't trust ANY American vehicle - my 2001 Ford F350 PSD was very problematic, so, you pays your money, and you take your chances.

My advice: return the vehicle, get a refund, and immediately go purchase a Chevy or Ford. There is absolutely no way on Earth that you will ever be satisfied with any Dodge dealer, employee, representative, product, or service. Rid yourself of the whole lot immediately.

With regard to the remainder of your story, I think Tomeygun, the wrecker driver, and the local dealership that sent out a tech deserve a round of applause for going the extra mile.

I definatly agree with that not many dealers these days would go the extra mile... .

"rbattelle" I understand your pain and just needed to vent. You would think that after spending 50K+ on a vehicle, that their would be no problems for many miles. But, unfortunately it happens way too much. I have been there done that with much less priority issues. (electric Door Lock issues on a full tank of fuel  ). I still have to laugh at the 5 page no paragraph rant. :-laf

I am not laughing at you but the situation, If I had my rife I would have shot my own truck. Oo. :D

The transfer case can be shifted manually, by the way. You just have to go under the truck to do it.

can you explain this a little more? I too have the electronic shift, and have always wondered what i could do in a pinch if it ever stopped working.

The therepy is working, I feel much better now. Still don't have a truck... . but I guess that's OK... . I'm still walking either with the truck or not :) :) :) :) :)

I'm going through the same thing right now. My 04. 5 is starting to fall apart at 27k miles. I think we all have a false impression that a high sticker price means high quality. In this case, that's totally wrong. Aside from the engine, I think the Dodge product is on par with Daewoo in the quality dept.

To the guy who said he doesn't trust any American vehicle. I completly agree. I have owned imports all my life and I decided to try out an American vehicle because you hear so much about how the quality has improved. Now I'm seeing why I have stayed away from them for years. It's easy to people to type on here and say "Hey, it's no big deal" or "It could be worse". That is true, but when I shelled out enough money to buy a small house for a pickup truck, I have high standards. If I don't, then it would be because I have more money then brains and I can assure you that AIN'T the case! :-laf

I think you missed Jdaigle point. its a $54000 mistake when your in that position after changing brands. lets be honest we really only bought the cummins anyway the dodge just comes with it. :-laf at that point beat, smash, burn all feels good ! (well goodluck )someday you will love it again.

Dodge is still a far better option then Ford or Chevy.

4x4 is one of those "cool" options that most people don't need but they just gotta have. Not me... I was worried about getting stuck pulling a trailer but the 2 times I've gotten in some nasty mud it sunk down a little bit (to the rims, cause of weight) and then just went right out and didn't spin the tires. It had been raining all day. I'll keep my 2wd

Dad always taught me the more fancy stuff you got the more there is to break.

No flame intened... ...

I read it on TDR, but I couldn't find the post by searching.

Anyway, you're supposedly able to remove the servo motor (a couple of bolts) and then move the selector with an open-end wrench.

I have not tried it myself, but the procedure in the service manual makes it look like a simple operation.

Update:

I've been trying to get DC to put my truck on a flatbed and bring it back to Houston from Louisiana where it sits at a local dealer's shop... . repaired. Get this... DC told me and I quote, "DC fells it's normal for the part to break and they feel it's not their responsiblity to bring my truck back"... ... . I give up. It's normal for 5 day old motors that have never been used to burn up..... oh yea... . I understand... . makes sense to me... why did I not see it that way before..... silly me.

Well that is a line of B. s. now I would be a bit angry about it... .

Did I forget to say how much I love my new truck... it's great!!

DC has excellent customer service and outstanding high quality products... . I would buy their products again and again and tell all my friends to hurry to the nearest DC dealership and buy a new truck before they run out them!!
