Mine's the only vehicle I own. (not counting wife's & kid's cars, plus inoperable motorcycles). Current commute is 20 mi each way.

I really, really, REALLY want to paint it in the spring. Tired of it looking like crap, though at least now I don't spend any time washing or waxing it. Ever. See sig.

That brings up another subject, " How does your 2nd gen look these days "
Here's mine

Sure, you southern and western guys keep showing us what our trucks would still look like without salt. :-laf

Seriously, those are some fine examples of 2nd gens.

The Salt, rust thing did cross my mind when I responded to that picture.

There are very few 1st and 2nd gens left in this area that look like that around here. Most have long since rotted away or are well on their way. Even many of the 3rd gens are starting to look pretty rough. I travel out west quite often and get jealous every time I'm out there of the really nice vehicle still on the road.

I'm originally from WI and only have been in the SW for about 5+ years. I was very fortunate to have a "work vehicle" which kept my truck out of the Wisconsin salt. I'm pretty fussy about keeping my vehicles as clean as possible, but it sure is a lot easier here..

Mule is coming up on 316,000 miles (about 100 to go) since the recession kicked in I been running the heck out of him/her/it (hardly use the liner). Mule has always been a daily driver and main produce wagon until I bought the Liner (Moose) in 98. Then Moose was the main produce wagon and Mule did watermlon runs, quick runs and backed up Moose ( had to have Moose sevice now and then).

I put 20,700 miles on Mule last year and 3500 on Moose. $ 5100 dollars on fuel for both. (Lucky for me since I have been driving Mule a lot on the highway he's back to averaging 19.5 mpg Moose averaged 11.9 mpg.)

Mule is mechanically sound. Needs new dash, headliner, front bumber starightened out and a/c fixed again(they replaced all the sensors it probably that piece a of junk napa a/c compressor they put on (they put on napa starter 3 years ago it went out in the driveway did get a new napa junk starter for free. But Mule was down a few days until I found time to put it on. One of these days I'm going to have my old oem starter rebuilt. They also put a napa alternator on. It seems to working fine.) (they = mechanic and his employees).

May the Force be with you! Safe Driving (They should rename I-4 between Orlando and Tampa the I-4 Race Track.) Missouri Mule

Mine I love, our dog mobile, 435,000, and zero rust here in Pacific Northwest. Both my sons have 3rd gen, I don't like the drivers view from theirs, it seems as though their hood is much higher. I've went through 4 interiors, due to yellow lab pups....when something needs modified or fixed, it gets done..mostly at Source Automotive, Clackamas, Or..RIP and Bill are unbelievable. I plan on keeping her forever....

Mine is rusty after residing in NY, but is getting me a solid 20mpg day in and out. With 204000, its just getting started.

Just sold some pickups out of the brush that i drove till they quit that were from the 60's. They had very little if any rust, only surface rust where they had lost their paint. Watching anything rust away would be a hard thing for me to do.

That is why I live where I do. When growing up and living in Pa. plus being in Illinois and Maine with the USAF I saw and had my rust fill. These days watching 30-70k dollars rotting away would just tear me up.

It's great how this thread has taken off. I got some help last fall doing body work on my '98 and painted it this spring. Painted the door handles, tailgate handle, bumper fascia and taillight bezels body color. Turned out nice. I think I'll keep it awhile :D

Another nice looking 2nd gen. I really do like the look of the 2nd gen trucks, and really torn even thinking of selling it. I really don't need the diesel anymore, but love driving it when I do. With less then 50,000 miles on it, and the condition of it, it is pretty much like a new truck. Decisions, decisions..
