Hey Opie-- (1) Did you install the fitting as a pitot or flush?

(2) What was your criteria in chosing a check valve?

)3) Why have a check valve if the system produces negative pressure out the exhaust? Sorry to make you write so much. Maybe I am missing something. George

1. The pitot that you are refering to is called a exhaust nipple. It is actually a venturi. The nipple is a 3/4" rigid pipe about 3" long that is threaded on one side and is cut at a 45 degree angle on the other. (This side will go inside your downpipe. ) If you look at the top of the 45 degree angle there is a v notch cut in it. I installed the nipple at a 45 degree angle with the flow of the exhaust. The nipple is welded in the downpipe up by the turbo. Most any muffler shop knows how to install the nipple.

2. My critieria is... The checkvalve that comes with the Moroso system has already been proven. It fits and its cheap.

3. Because without a checkvalve there will be positive pressure too. Not to mention heat and noise from your exhaust. To run this system a checkvalve has to be used!

I listed the part numbers and costs in the original thread : https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=32963&highlight=pill+bottle

Thanks Opie. So if one is looking at the downpipe the nipple branches off and up like a tree branch but does not go inside the downpipe. Right? One should install this nipple below the exhaust brake I am thinking..... ;) George

I just ordered the parts from Summit and I hope there are some written or pictured directions. Perhaps you all know where some drawings of this fix are. George

George,

I know you are kidding about not welding the nipple inside the exhaust. As about 1/2 of it will be inside. (Like I mentioned any good muffler shop will know how to or even explain how to install it. ) And by the way to answer your thread question, I think you just saved yourself over $700 on this mod! I will try to upload some pictures of my setup tomarrow. As there won't be any pictures/instructions with the parts you ordered.

Excellent! No, I really did not know you were putting half the nipple inside the pipe. It shoulda been but didn't "get it" til now. I do appreciate your help and the savings over a Walker AirSep. Utter simplicity is my thing. I have roll up windows! My attraction to Cummins is simplicity and would own a early 98 quad cab 12 valve if I could have found one. But these are simple enough. 2003? No way. (I have a 2002 HO) Look forward to those pictures which you may want to include the address of your earlier description or maybe make a better one for future reference. Thanks, George

The gold portion is the checkvalve. The threads you see below it are the top of the exhuast nipple. The ex-nipple is only going in about an inch in this install. On my last exhaust it was over 1. 5" inside the downpipe.

This picture shows the whole shabang from the drivers side. The hose is only strapped in two places. One ziptie to the cooling return hose and one to the engine hoist mount which you cant completely see as the veiw is being blocked by the engine oil fill cap.
