If you're still looking for a CI-4 oil Amsoil still has it. They have the CJ-4 too, but on a pre emission engine I'd run a CI-4 oil.

Looking on the internet, I can find amsoil in synthetic for the older engines. Are you saying that they also have dino oil that meets ci-4 ? and zddp ?

My 5K oil analysis is coming back virtually identical with the new oil as with the prior CI stuff.

How many miles are on the truck now? And the more important question is how many miles will the engine last - Wear over 5k should be minimal, wear over 500k is most likely where you'll see the difference. Or 1000k.

And years ago the oils had better additive packages, and years ago I'd agree with that engineer. But when the EPA has caused the removal of the best additive packages from the oil you used to run, do you not think perhaps the story might change? If oil A with ZDP already in it is good, might oil B without ZDP have different wear protection? Consider the reason the ZDP was in the oil to begin with is because it was the best formula they had found to protect your engine. Now it's not in there.

Coke without the soda in it wouldn't be as good, you'd want to add it back in even though you never had to add anything years ago.

Well I change my oil every year and a half and I am in the cult of Amsoil. It's well worth it's price due to the extended drain intervals and not worrying about having a quality oil available to protect my engine. By the way. . . I do not believe for a moment as to the backward compatibility of these new oils anymore than Clinton "did not have sex". Last time I looked Amsoil still did make CI4+ 15w-40 Marine. I've got enough of that oil on the shelf to last 10 years. I'll check in a couple of years and probably buy more if it's still available.

I just did an oil analysis on my rig. 5k change interval with Valvoline Premium Blue CJ-4. The report shows 1263 PPM of zinc. Is this not considered high enough? I've been reading about the older CI-4 oils and while they aren't readily available I would like to know how many PPM of zinc a CI-4 oil would contain.
