scbroder- In your last picture you show the temp sensor in the factory location. Would this be a good time to relocate the sensor to the "new and improved" location??

Does anyone know the new position? I'm thinking that I could kill two birds with one stone, fixing the broken doors and reducing the tendency for evaporator freeze up.

Thanks!

This would be a perfect time to relocate the temp sensor, you're right there. I did not relocate mine because I was unable to determine where the "new and improved" location was. Talked to a couple of dealerships but they could not find anything regarding temp sensor relocation.

While I was at the dealership yesterday, I asked the Service Manager about the relocation. He said that it has not worked on any of the ones they have done. The units still would freeze up (given the right conditions). I don't know if the "they have done" is the dealership or DC.

While getting the parts for the repairs, they had everything in stock but the coupling. The parts guy said they have been stocking most of the stuff, since they have been doing a few of the repairs every month since summer began.

Just for kicks I asked the Service Manager what the cost would be to have the dealership do the repairs and he said the book called for 7. 5 hours, so with parts and tax, I would be out around $1,000. I told him that if I got stuck I’d bring the truck in to finish the job. The Service Manger, who knows I do a lot of my own work, said he doubted I’d be back. I take that as a vote of confidence! :)

By the way, if the parts counter says the parts are around $150, they are charging list price. Under $100 is a reasonable discount.

Heading into winter with floor/defrost acting the same ... ... ... ... . I was fixin to take it to the dealer, but this looks doable :D

PS Already been "fixed" by the dealer 2 maybe 3 times ... .....

Scbroder I just wanted to thank you for the work you did and took the time to share with others. I feel as if I should pay you something since I am now going to save alot of money doing this repair myself. . I love to have things to do and this will be fun to fix since you have done the hard part and givin direction. Your new name is Profesor Scbroder the PHD of HVAC repair :-laf

I'm sorry, I must've had a brain fart. I thought I had copied this to the FAQ section, but I couldn't find it. It's there now.

Excellent work! I'm hoping I won't need to use it, but I'm glad that it's there (and so detailed even I could do it) if I do.

Just had this job done on my 06. Thankfully it was under warranty.

I also got to see the difference between the new and old HVAC housing.

It also appears to work better too as the left side vent blows much more air than it did before the old blend door broke.

Is '07 the same?

Crap, I just got an '07. Is this still a problem, or does the TSB apply to my new one as well? I'm going to fix my '04 in a week or two. I just spent two weeks in Albuquerque, and what little heat my truck developed from start in the morning to my short commute, it would have been nice to have it blowing on the windshield like I wanted and not on my face and feet!

Scbroder,

What were your symptoms to make you do this. Just that you couldn't change the flow? I'm having issues with my driver's side A/C being much colder than the passenger side.

I could not control air flow between the floor and defrost. Any time the floor or defrost was selected, air came out of the floor vents only. I know others have commented on the A/C temperature difference.

Yea, I noticed, I was hoping no one would notice my inquire about them. :-laf

Is the recirculation housing w/ door etc. the same thing as a Blend air door? The dealer is telling me that the Blend air door needs replacing.

I purchased the 4 part numbers listed, just didn't want to tear it down and find that I need another part.

BTW: I couldn't get out of there without paying the following: 5127758AA - $87. 51 / 5073964AA - $27. 58 / 5019632AA - $7. 67 and Part #6800426AB - $20. 11

Mark, a year ago or so, I replaced the recirc housing stuff listed in the original section of this thread. Last month the blend door/housing died on me. I did not have time to work on it myself, so $800 later, the dealer had me all back to normal. To my surprise, the tech actually did a good job and did not mess up any of my gauges or Painless Wiring for the accessories.

What I learned is that while everything is apart; replace any and all suspected parts. The parts are cheap and the labor is expensive. Only pay the labor once, even if you are doing the labor yourself. The only thing behind my dash that is not new is the evaporator. My service writer did say they have replaced one evaporator, but it is rare. I'm rolling the dice by not replacing the evaporator... I am planning on replacing the truck when the new generation 2009 comes out. I figure the startup problems with the new emission controls and new motor will be worked out by then and HOPEFULLY, the AC will be improved.

Good Luck!
