Hi,

My truck is an 01 6-speed H. O. with the modifications in my signature. I am going to to send in my comp for the HOT upgrade and almost definetly going to stack it with a smarty. I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions for me in choosing a turbo. I want to go with either Industrial Injection or HTT. The truck is a daily driver however I want a turbo that will give me the best results at the drag strip while still remaing driveablility on the street. I am used to having to control smoke when I drive and dont mind it that much but would like to control it as much as possible. Any suggestions would be great.

Presently I am considering a HTT quick diesel 64/14 or Pro street 66. Or an II sps 62 or silver bullet. I have also heard of the sps64 but cant find it on their website.

Thanks alot for any suggestions!:)

PowerbyPoole.com and Sourceautomotive. biz both have twin turbo kits using your stock HX-35 and they through in a HTB3 !! Instant spool up, 70lbs of boost, and you might as well through your EGT gauge away cause you will never have to worry! :-laf

Not sure on the price but the turbos your lookin at are running $1600-$2000! These kits are probally just a lil more but well worth it! :D

I have run most of HT's turbos... . the HTB2 64/14, 64/12, 62/14, 62/12 & now have the new Super Stock 62 which is HT's version of II SPS62. The SS62 is by far the best turbo... . spoolup is amazing, cools better than a 64/14 [300*] & is by far the most fun to drive. I also tow 15k# & haven't got Egt's over 1200* on long pulls 5 miles long up 5-8% grades. With Smarty & Drag Comp on kill I see 1400* @ 100 mph. Gotta Getcha One!

What's the differene between the Super Stock 62 and the HTB2 62/12?

The Super Stock has a 71mm turbine wheel [A. K. A. killer wheel] & the HTB2 has a 65mm turbine wheel. The 71mm wheel is a low drive pressure wheel which builds boost way faster from 10psi to 45psi... . like your truck just got a rocket shoved up its tailpipe! Check them out at www.htturbo.com

What is an HTB3 (who makes it and what size). And would this be better than a single as far as drag racing?

Thanks for all the great suggestions, Keep um comin!

Sorry for the typo. . . its an HT3B. The turbo comes off of over the road semi's. The turbo is very cheap and when combined with your stock turbo it would be great for drag racing! That set up would easily give 60-70 lbs of boost. The HT3B has been used in twin kits for a while now, it is not the newest or greatest technology but it works and it works well. For the money you cant beat it!

II Silver 62 is what you need

I would go with the silver 62 from II from what I see and read about the sps62 and egts I would go for the silver 62 instead especially if you want to run it on the track. I have never gotten it over 1300 no matter how hard I run it and then it is only for a split second until it spools up then egts settle in at 1100 -1250 at full tilt. It has a 74mm turbine wheel that really spools well even for towing or daily driving.

That would be my vote too!!!:D

Based on your mods I would go with a 62mm turbo. As mentioned either a II SPS62 or HTT SS62. With the HTT version you an get a stainless steel housing that aids in spoolup, but adds around 3 bills to the price. Personally I feel the silver 62 would be overkill... ... . You would have slower spoolup and slightly lower egt's running it but everyday driving is not as nice as the 71 turbine versions.

Doug

I will agree with Doug on the silver 62 being overkill with only 100 hp injectors. But if you ever upgrade to bigger injectors and or a drag comp it would be the cats meow.

I disagree on him saying that it will give"Slightly"lower egts. As I read through all the forums and see all the sps62 with 100-150 injectors commonly running 1400-1600+egts while dynoing or racing or hard pulling, is hardly my idea of "Slightly". I have seen 1300 only once and that was holding the brake on the dyno"An experiment". It took about 5 seconds of braking to creep up to 1300 at 1500rpm only lasted for a split second when brake released it dropped to 1100-1200 instantly when turbo lit past 1700rpm.

As far as spoolup I went from stock hy to BD superB "Which is supposed to be a real fast spooler" with 90hp sticks then to the silver62 and spool lag was only about 1 second slower at rpms less than 1700. over 1700 rpm there is virtually no lag at all. From a dead stop romp off idle with 155 injectors and comp at 2-2 or 3-3 and smarty on 4 or 6 there is still only about 1. 5 second lag until around 15-1600rpm. At that point with my limited slip I hope nobody is beside me because I get sideways on the pavement real quick:eek: .

This is running an auto which spools them slower than a manual. :p

AOsipower, Have you made a decision yet?

Everyone else,

I myself am torn between the SPS62 and The Silver Bullet 62!

I want the Silver Bullet, but I think the SPS might be better suited for my needs (daily driver, light towing (5-7k), occasional drag racing--standard street performance truck).

Which ever turbo I go with I plan to add an exhaust manifold and SMARTY at the same time. I don't plan on getting bigger injectors.

Any suggestions??

I would go with the sps62 then if you will not get bigger injectors. The silver 62 likes bigger sticks. Even with 155 hp sticks I have to run comp on level 4 minimum to get to 45 psi. level 3 and smarty only gets me 42 psi.

Thanks BILLVO, That's pretty much where my thought process was heading. Thats what the Wade at NGM told me too. I was also thinking that for the sake of a slightly quicker spool up the SPS would be a better choice. Plus the SPS is a little cheaper.

Made my decision and ordered it on Saturday... . HTT Quick Diesel 64/14 can't wait to get it on... my decision in the end came down to price... Garrett at puredieselpower.com gave me a price I couldn't turn down. I really don't think i could have gone wrong though, all the companies in question make great turbos.
