I just make a trip to alaska from va. it was a 4700 mile trip i was at 1100-1200 75% of the way. The Snow kit helped a lot on pulling hills, if the temps started to rise i would just turn on the juice and the would fall right back to safe temps.



After i got up here i pulled the head and every thing looked great! The exhaust valve stems had a little green and yellow to them but they were ok.

Curious as to why you pulled the head off. Was it just simply to satisfy yourself that all was well?

My boy thinks that it would be a "good thing" to install a water mist system just in case I ever needed it when I start towing my travel trailer.
 
If you want the best possible protection from high EGT's water injection is a good investment. You can add methanol to the mix for a little more fun. Water also helps scrub the engine and keep it free of deposits and other buildup. Even of extreme hills with 16 - 18K in tow I have a hard time exceeding 1100 F.
 
I had just gotten in to alaska and i was showing off a little and the truck was running really good, and i popped the head gasket at about 50#. The only thing that was leaking was oil, so i dont know how but it busted out an oil seal in the head gasket near the front. The compression rings were all in good shape not any leaks. But thats why i pulled the head.
 
I tow a 30' fiver and before my mods I would easily get up to 1350 EGT's, my Edge Juice told me so. I put on the Super B and 4' exhaust and wala, much lower EGT's and do not get any alarms from the Edge. The Super B did the trick and towing up grades, I easily do 75-80+ passing all the cars and all runs cool. Very Happy Now!
