Hi guys! I've been unsubscribed for quite a while!

Anyway, I am back, mostly because I wanted to see about the 6. 7. I am pretty happy with my '06 2500 Megacab G56, but I made a mistake (?) of test driving an '08 2500 QC auto.

Actually, my girlfriend went with and SHE is the one that says, "Wow, Nick, this thing is so quiet! Our truck is so long and that's why I don't drive it much. This quad cab would be easier to park. "

Then we drive the auto. SWEET! The thumb shift is nice too. Then we try the exhaust brake. Awesome!

So, here is my engine/transmission questions! Who is totally happy with the 6. 7? The 5. 9 is great, tried and true, but the 6. 7 worries me a bit. Is the exhaust brake a variable vane type instead of butterfly valve? Is the switch easily accessible for you towers? It seems a bit out of place, so does the thumb shift but I got used to that on the test ride.

So, we are looking to get this one. '08 2500, QC, 4x4, auto, Big Horn, bug deflector, tube steps, under-rail bedliner, cab clearance lights. I'll keep you all updated :D

I have over 25,000 on my 08 and love it and so will you the EB works sweet and it will save brake wear also plus you can **** tailgaters off also . besides the 6. 7 is 2 sec quicker then the 5. 9 stock to stock

Two seconds quicker?

That's a first, please explain.

The way I understand it is that it is due to the longer stroke engine helps it get off the line better and the transmission leaves no gaps and keeps it in the sweet spot. Its definately faster than my '04 was when it was stock.

I got rid of my 06 QCSB and got an 08 Mega, basically the opposite of what you are doing size wise. LOL.

The 6. 7 is sweet. My wife defintely liked it better for the same reasons your girl did! I've only got about 2200 miles on mine so far, but its a great truck so far.

At times I still really miss my 5. 9, but with each mod I do to the 6. 7 that goes away a little more. The thing that blows about the 6. 7L is the cost of all the **** to get it ready to really mod... like ditching the dpf and egr. Then once you delete all that stuff, your warranty is voided. With your 5. 9 you can run a straight pipe right off the turbo, and your warranty isnt effected. Theres alot more hoops to jump through to make the 6. 7L run.

Would I do it again? I don't think so, I just would have bought a MEGA in 06 if I knew what I know now. That being said, I am totally happy with my 08 6. 7L, just miss the loud, smokey, reliable old 5. 9. Good Luck with your decision.

Edit: For ALOT more active forums on the 6. 7L check out Dodge Cummins Diesel Forum

from what I understand there is a guy on another site that tested his new 08 I believe with 4-10's and it was like 15 in the 1/4 I know mine is plenty fast and it's bone stock .

Nothing really not to like about the 6. 7 except fuel economy. I figure about 1 to 1-1/2 mpg worse than a comparable 5. 9. I think this is mostly caused by the emissions stuff.

So far, I've had no codes with my 6. 7 and she runs great.

If poorer fuel economy and $5. 00 diesel fuel bothers you then don't get the 6. 7.

Driveability, the transmission, and exhaust braking on the new rigs are awesome.

16K on the clock on my 07. 5 and 1 recall and 1 reflash and a few oil changes. Love the EB, the thumb shift is actually easy to use. fuel mileage is fair, WAY Better than the Gasser towing, a little better on the commute, better than my wifes Ranger 3. 0l V-6.

If I did it over again I would probably go for the 4500 C&C.

Thanks guys, this is what I am wanting to hear! Sounds good so far. Not worried about the mileage. I have a motorcycle so not worried about that!

I absolutely love my truck except for the mileage. Since fuel is so expensive, I look for excuses to drive it, but other than that I have no problems with it. It has plenty of power in stock form. Engine brake is way cool, ( it is the VVT - type)_. I haven't had a bit of trouble with mine, no codes, no cel's no nothing. I have 12k on the clock also.

I really like the EB in tow/haul mode. The computer does a great job slowing down with just a little pressure on the brake pedal. I used to use the thumb shift a lot but now I let the computer do the slowing down. It really does a great job and lets me drive with no worries. So far the auto is amazing!!
I drove a new Ferd at the boat launch for a guy. I checked twice to see if the park brake was set. It felt like it was geared like a ton of lead, it took a lot of effort to move the truck. 2 minutes in the Ferd had me convinced that Dodge has a great setup.

I don't think the mileage difference is that great. My '07 5. 9 gets similar mileage to the 6. 7's. In fact, I think I would have been just as happy with a 6. 7.

I just went to a 2008 2500 Mega 4x4 with the Auto as well and it is fantastic!!! I do miss my 05 with the six speed manual and the Banks Dual exhaust and Banks intake... ( it sounded cool!!!) but the new truck is gonna be great for the long 1000 mile trips!!! :-laf

Well I drive a 2007 6. 7 for a living.

I just returned from a 4765 Mile trip and I averaged 20. 55 MPG US

I currently have 95,194 miles on the Odometer

Have I have any problems, just the normal reflashes and replacement of the entire EGR and DPF system under warranty.

Would I do again, in a heartbeat, no question.

Great truck, Good service, Great Ride
