Chose AFE Proguard 7 drop in cone at 50,000 miles. Read that stock air box not all that restrictive. Sold by Geno's and I trust them. No oil analysis to prove anything yet.
Thanks for forwarding that Avi!Hi Avi,
I am not a member of TDR, but please respond for me:
"After running a good 12 hours and 200 miles in the Mexican dirt with Avi, my filter (which was cleaned but not oiled prior to leaving for the trip) became clogged with an incredible amount of sediment. I checked the inlet tube at the time I knocked out all of the dust and it passed a visual inspection- no signs of debris or dust. When I got it home, I immediately cleaned the filter and checked the inlet by wiping it with white lint-free gloves used in the aerospace industry. Not a single drop of dirt or oil was inside. The AFE drop on filter did a great job filtering, but I felt I couldn't never get it as clean as I wanted to, it seemed to get soiled too easily after that episode- I can't explain why. I have since replaced it with a custom CAI. "
We call it "mooondust". Gets into everything. Maybe the ultimate intake is a snorkel for these things.good grief
Well, it looks like according to the oil sample info, I shouldn't have too much to worry about. Thanks to you guys for putting my mind at ease. If ya'll get the pics of that guys inlet tube, post 'em up! Thanks again.
If you want max filtration, stick with the high-end Fleetguard filter, IMO. Last study I read was that the flow difference between the Fleetguard and the oiled filters was negligible and the filtration was higher. Plus they are much less expensive and you can change them more often if you want.
Vaseline has a very low temp rise before it liquifies... ... .....
Sounds like you may have experience :-laf
