Off Roading Installed Buckstop Baja Bumper Photos

Thanks, TDR Staff
I have the Baja on the front of my truck, and it is worth every cent (it totaled a Bluebird bus recently with out even knowing it happened, I was out of town). I installed Kore Heavy Duty springs because the stock springs were sagging a little with the stock springs.

How is everybodies bumper holding up? i just had to pull mine off cuz i had a light go out and there isnt enough clearance to pull them out. I figured now is the time to get it lin-x'd since there is so much rust and peeling paint. i say paint because there is no way they powder coated it. also i took out all 4 light buckets and half the studs broke off. guess i will weld them in when i get the bumper sand blasted and then line-x it. i am still happy with the overall bumper though

My Buckstop Baja is still in great shape with no rust or peeling (and mine was definitely powder coated).

I would definately like to have a good HD front bumper on my 98 dually (the deer in the road situation in rural WI is terrible), but I'm very concerned about the added wt.

When I bought my current truck with 84K miles on it, the stock ball joints were shot. Frankly, I think the added wt. of the Cummins engine (600lbs. +or-), over the gas engine, puts the stock susp. and steering components on the ragged edge, of what they are capable of handling. From what I've read the 2nd gens are worse than the 3rd gens.

After inst. a 230 lb. Buckstop on my 06 2500- 4x4, I was not happy at all with how the additional wt. effected it. The steering (too much load on the power steering pump, as in parallel parking), and suspension (ie: speed bumps). And thats after installing new HD springs, shocks, and a front end allignment.

If or when I decide to buy one, I'll be shopping for a high quality, Lt. wt. (alum?) HD bumper, with a built in 2" hitch receiver. Then if I need a winch, I'll buy a portable one that fits into the receiver, front or rear as needed, when off-roading, etc.

IMO, the added 300+ lbs. hanging way out over the front, kills what little durability our front end components are capable of.

I use a veritable rate spring. it made a big diffidence when I put my snow plow on. even better
then the snow plow prep package springs that came on the truck new. almost like the plow wasn't on. And it gave it a bedder ride with the plow off.

Jerry ... do you have any info on what specific variable rate spring you have? Please let me know.

Thanks,

Don

Don,
Now that you have had it for a while, what do you think? Do you still like it? Did you ever change your springs? Would you do it again? What would you do different?

The Bucktop could be purchased to be painted or with powder coating depending on the color choice. I have the powder coat that looks as good as the day I bought it. It also sports my Warn M15000 winch quite nicely.
