I don't have a decent or discount cummins dealer anywhere near me.

Where are you guys ordering from and getting a good price??

I got my pulley and will probably install it in the next 2 or 3 days. But looking at it, I'm almost positive it will allow me to change belts even with the FD installed.

I have formulated, what I hope is, an intelligent question, even though Prairie Dog suggested none was necessary. ;)

If I understand this correctly, we are taking a harmonic damper and fan pulley meant for the 6. 7 engine and putting it on the 5. 9, as a replacement for the 5. 9 HD, the same way we would use a Fluiddamper, but cheaper? Is this correct?

Also, on my 5. 9, I can change the belt without removing anything. I have heard that when one changes to the Fluiddamper or ATS, one must remove the HD to replace the belt. When doing the 6. 7 onto 5. 9 swap, do you retain the ability to change belts without further disassembly?

Like Prairie Dog, I have a 2003. Besides him, has anyone done this transplant successfully on an '03?

Thank you.

Larry

Godspeed,

Well so much for me being "almost positive". #@$%!
With the 6. 7 pulley and the Fluid Dampener there STILL isn't enough room to slide the belt out between them. It still needs roughly another . 050"s. It's possible a very worn belt could slip between them but I doubt it.
Looks like I took one for the team. Anybody need a new in the box 6. 7 pulley? :{

Loosen the pulley and install the belt then tghten it. That damper is well worth hassle of having to loosen the pulley a bit to install a belt.

If I just loosen it, the bottom moves out more over the HB and actually makes things worse. Now I if I were to remove all the screws holding the pulley and pop it up out of the way, that would work. It would be a "B" though to line up those screws by braille though.
I'm going to try leaving one screw in and see if it will pop out just far enough to rotate up and out of the way of the belt.

How often do you replace the belt? Mine was like new at 38K when I had my Fluidamper installed. I replaced the belt anyway. I purchased the Fluidamper three yrs ago for a great price in anticipation of bookoo transmission noise with the smf replacement clutch. As it turned out,the transmission's pretty quiet still.

The Fluidamper did smooth out the idle noticeably, but as far as enhancing the driveability, not that much. Engine is still quiet. Nice product.

The huge difference it made in the shifting and killing the drone makes it a worthwhile investment for me.

Cerb, Your right, with the newer pulley it wouldn't take much forward movement of the HB to gain clearance. I'm toying with the idea of machining two sides (for balance) of the pulley down so that it would give the needed clearance. I'm going to measure everything to figure out exactly how much I would have to remove from the edge. If it is a reasonable amount then I will build a jig that makes it possible to remove exactly the same amount from two sides of the pulley. If I grind through then I may have a friend tack it.
What do you think?

If you`re talking about the fan pulley, go for it. I would not grind or cut Any off the damper. there is no way to get a good weld on a oil filled damper. I think you can grind a little off the front flange of the fan pulley in 2 places and be home free.

@ Blacksheepdiesel, Thanks for the write up and the answers to my questions. I may have to try this.

@ Prairie Dog, It sounds like you tried the 6. 7 fan pulley with a Fluidampr, and not the harmonic damper for the 6. 7, as BSD used. Is that correct? If so, perhaps that is why you cannot change the belt without partial disassembly.

Thank you,

Larry

The Cummins p/n for the Damper is 4933224 and the Fan Pulley is p/n 4930580. These are form the "standard" 6. 7. I don't know if the HO is different or not. Anyone got a ESN from a new HO? Shad
