Guy's I am onboard w/ the stock filter, in fact I removed my K&N after reading a post here and TDR. My question is on 2 different occasions my "check filter" cel came on. Once was a hard pull over a back country mountain pulling, dry weather (installed k&n after), the other was yesterday, raining, empty, 2nd gear half ish throttle.
stopped both times and checked, clean and dry, less than 1k one each, what gives?
Both filters are Ram supplied OEM,

I don't know is the complete answer. Perhaps the ECM and sensors sensed high humidity?

Posts here have suggested the sensors are very sensitive.

I wonder if your MAP sensor is dirty from the EGR and slow to report the proper boost to the ECM. I would also check the pre-turbo sensro as both of those are used to determine the status of the air filter.

That was the same experience I had with an OEM Ram filter (Yes the made in china filter from dodge). I replaced it with a fleetguard filter from genos and haven't had the problem since. Prior to the garbage OEM filter I only ran the fleetguards and I saw the filter reminder only one time and when I checked the filter it needed to be replaced.

It appears the filter minder is a little flakey. LOL Mine came on back in April. I ordered 2 from Geno's so I'd have a spare. Since then, I've towed the 5th wheel (16,000#) to Colorado and back to Texas. Over Wolf Creek Pass on the way back.

The filter gizmo has never gone off again. I'm just hauling 2 air filters around in boxes.

Even when the K&N looked significantly clogged, the filter minder never moved at all. Hmmmm.

I have used AMZ/OIL products since the mid 70's and I have to say the Ea air filter is way too restrictive. On my 98 12V I had the AFE big cone type filter and had good luck with it. I decided to try the Ea filter, looked like a good design it was oval/conical in shape. I could not pull the Grapevine as fast as I had been so I thought something was wrong with the truck. I later popped the hood and noticed the filter minder was down so I re set it. I took a trip to town and when I got back for some reason I popped the hood and the minder was down again. So the brain started to figure out the only thing I had done was to replace the AFE with the Ea filter. I re installed the AFE and the filter minder never went down again and I started pulling the grades like I used to!

My opinion the Ea probably filters real good but really does not flow much air.

The EA was discontinued for the 03-07 5. 9's for that reason. There is a newly released 6. 7 filter that is supposed to flow more than stock, but time will tell on it.

I'd just like to take the opportunity to remind everyone of this... .

Next, the piston rings and engine bore take a beating because the dust acts as an abrasive material, wearing away those two sliding surfaces. Dust can then find its way into the oil by getting past the rings against the bores of the engine. With the oil filter able to hold only so much dirt before plugging and then bypassing, eventually the rest of the engine bearings suffer.

Dust is bad, right?

What about the carbon molecules you're injecting into your cylinders courtesy of the EGR? What does Cummins/Ram have to say about that? How can they complain about dusting from poor filtration, when the EPA is doing much more damage in the name of cleaner emissions?

Your point is well made, and I agree. However, carbon is much softer than airborne abrasives. Diesel engines have been running for years with carbon in the oil. It wasn't until the introduction of the '94 12 V and the early CR engines that oil started to stay clean. My 30 year old Mercedes has been producing ink-like oil since new and still runs fine.

Ok in response to your supposed made in china air filter with a dealer part #-I held off replying untill i checked a good number of them. Not just what we had in stock but new orders from the parts depot,They have all been marked-right on the element itself with made in usa along with the specs of the filter.
I am not from Mo. but I still say show me now at this point I am thinking you must have an axe to grind lol

Nothing like some homework before having 2 cents to offer!!!
Not taking sides or making accusations, just wish more people would take some time and leave out there own opinion out and facts in.
Again no fingers pointed (I too get caught up in the heat of... ) just saying, NO Substitute for knowledge

Thank you Bob for taking time to further all of our knowledge

I still have the filter, I can take a pic and try to post it. This was a filter in a plastic bag marked with a label that had the dodge part number. All the filters you checked, how were they packaged? In a plastic bag with a label or some other type packaging?

I have no axe to grind, I love my truck and have no issues with it at all. The truck has its quirks but I just accept them as part of the truck and love it none the less. Just sharing an experience I had with a filter. I even like the dealership, I would recommend them for service and sales. I usually try to use fleetguard stuff but in this one case went to the dodge dealer. Maybe they sold me an aftermarket filter but I wouldn't know because I have never bought one from them before this time. That is why I asked how yours are packaged, mine was in a plastic bag not quit shrink wrapped but the size of the filter and it had a label on it with a dodge part number. I would think they would get in trouble selling non dodge parts but I have no clue about that stuff. I respect your opinion on this since you are certainly in the know a lot more than I am and you can't find any made in china then this could have been an isolated case of a dealer selling non dodge parts. All I know is that I walked out of there with the filter that I had to replace before its time.
