pictured is my 870 tactical. It is pretty fun, has a simple bushnell banner scope, sure fire light, its easy to whip around, and its fairly accurate up to 100 yds with a slug, surprisingly. As others have said, Mossberg 500's are nice also. At auctions locally I have seen beat up old 870 wingmasters go for more than you can buy a nice new one for! My preference is for the 870 super mag because it has the candoleivered barrel and can shoot 3 1/2" shells, can really reach out and touch stuff with it, its my turkey destroyer.

Interesting thought but I really have a problem with auto or semi auto in a fast paced situation, one jam and your lunch meat!!!! When I packed a Mossberg in Nam it at times was full of mud, water, grit and it still functioned well enough to let me writing this!!!

BIG

Semi autos have come a long way, and are quick and easy to clear a malfunction. I based the suggestion on your request for high capacity and "speed load", where you don't get much faster than swapping out a 12 round mag.

Nothing wrong with the tried and true pump actions, and tube fed.

Wilson Combat does excellent work on the 870 platform. If you can get ahold of a used LE trade in 870 Police and send it to Wilson for their treatment, you'll be forever happy.

The Benelli M4 is an exceptionally good semi auto shotgun that costs about what a Wilson Combat 870 will run after all the goodies are done to it. The M4 is a great tool, and holds up well to abuse/heavy use in the way out there places.

Too much technology in that picture, BIG... I prefer your older horsepower methods. LOL

The Benelli M4 isn't cheap--especially when it is equipped with the adjustable stock and extended capacity magazine tube--but it's one helluva shotgun.

I'm really partial to my 870 Police that has been Wilson'd, as well as my Mossy 590A1 heavy barrel. It's a heavy duty beast.

That's the next door neighbors place we went for a ride and ran across him working!!!!! an unusual but happy occasion.

Ya I would just as soon stay away from semi autos I like the old slam banger pump guns for their reliability!!!

I don't like the Remington bolt assembly... too thin and stamped out, especially after the mid '80s. The Mossberg doesn't look much better, but the parts are much tougher, and it's a better feeding ramp design, with less probability of failure in duress, especially when full of snow or mud. Most of the Mossberg pump action parts are made here in Texas... . where the shotguns are made, along side Maverick shotguns in Eagle Pass, TX. The Mossberg carries a 10 year warranty, the Maverick a 1 yr... ...

The Mossberg's I've had are extremely reliable, even when neglected. One particular 500, my Persuader (#2), has been my room security in every room I've stayed in for the last 9 years. The one before it was given to my wife for home duty, as it's never failed me. It's been on the majority of continents, and a large number of countries. It's a shotgun, so not many people give a it a second thought when you tell them that..... Persuader #2 has been with me non-stop for almost a decade, and killed several hundred, if not over a thousand, hogs, and quite a few coyotes that came in too close or sat there too long. The bluing is beaten and scratched, the aluminum showing on the receiver in places, but it's never failed me when I needed it... .

For a lot of rounds either a Kel Tec KSG or SRM 1216

Looking for 12 ga 3" mag preferred, Tactical shotgun 18" to 20" barrel as many round capacity as possible. HAS!!! to be speed loader compatible, your choice and WHY??

(1) Remington 887 Express Tactical

(2) 590 Tactical Tri-Rail

(3) 500 Thunder Ranch

(4) Model 870™ Express Tactical
Would you consider a KELTEC KSG http://www.keltecweapons.com/news/preview-kel-tec-shotgun-ksg/ or a SRM 1216 http://www.srmarms.com/firearms/ The KELTEC KSG has twin tubes with 6 rounds each plus 1 in the chamber with a 18. 5 barrel. The SRM1216 is a 4 tube rotary magazine 4 rounds each for 16 plus 1 in the chamber and 18" barrel. Both are a bit scarce to find. Both of course are tactical type weapons but have great optics capability. Just a thought as both are magnum capable. Oh yeah, Both are USA made.

When you can't make up your mind between semi-auto and pump:

I had to take care of several problem creatures that came calling the other night, WITH THE MOSSBERG PUMP. When my Nephew open the door and I stepped out and clicked on the mounted light, not 15ft away was the first, and the following 4 or 5 (I lost track it happened so fast), PROBLEM CREATURES, became PROBLEMS NO MORE!! ran in a speed loader full and checked to see if there were any other Problems that needed to be dealt with. Nephew laughing when he asked how do you pull the trigger so fast? ITS WHAT YOU GET USE TO!!!! I don't think that I could have shot a round and recovered from recoil any faster with an auto than what I did with my pump. He asked how do you get your sight picture back so fast, SIGHT PICTURE!!!!!! on a 18 1/2 inch barrel at no more than 10 yards from the end of the barrel with the bead on it, WHAT!! SIGHT PICTURE, I don't like the sights that some of these shot guns have on them they get hung up or snag something, just a bead to give a reference point, its not like I was shooting a 100yard group to see how the ammo worked. IT WORKED JUST FINE!!!

I'm quite partial to my Mossy 500. Bought it used about 7 years ago for $179 with a 28" barrel and regular stock. After putting on 18. 5" barrel and pistol grip it sat as a home defense gun until this summer when I decided to learn to shoot skeet. Put the old barrel and stock back on and works well for shooting clays, too. No problems, dead reliable. Not as pretty as the expensive O/U guns the guys I shoot with have, but then again I didn't pay $1000+ like they did and I'm not all that worried if it gets scratched, etc. I vote for the 500.

Hmm, sounds familiar.....

One night, shortly after I got married, my wife was sitting in her chair reading a book, and I was sitting at my desk, polishing a trigger and locking lugs on a new 1911 I had just put together... . I put it back together, racked the slide, and said, "Ya know, when I said until death do us part, I meant it... . "
She looked up over the top of her book, laid it down, and reached behind her, bump checked her polished 9mm, and answered, "I did too, MotherF*****!!!!"

We've lived happily ever after since.....

My favorite is my Rem 870 I have had since age 16. I have a couple of expensive semi auto's I bought for duck hunting but I still tend to grab my 870 pump. I have a synthetic camo stock on it, along with a stretch camo tape to cover all the steel and a HiViz front site. It takes care of business.

The Mossberg that we picked up for Penny seems built way better than the one from the 1970's period its tighter as far as the slide, trigger, and just feels better. But time will tell, my Mossberg has had MANY!!!! rounds ran threw it.
