When I start my truck it either starts and immediately dies, or it runs for about a second and then dies. I start it back up and it runs fine after that. It seems only to do it the first time I start the truck. Have any of you had this problem before and/or do you know what I need to do to fix it.

I would be looking for a leak in fuel lines. Air could be in system, starving engine or fuel could drain back away from injector pump. Maybe lift pump is not keeping pressure up to injector pump

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge installed (you really should)? Tell us what the fuel pressure is doing when you first turn the ignition on then after your start the engine.

Try this to see if it makes a difference:

Before attempting to start the engine for the first time, BUMP the starter (but don't crank it). You should be able to hear the lift pump run for about 25 seconds. After the lift pump shuts off, turn the ignition key to OFF and then immediately attempt to start the engine. See if it stays running after doing this.

My '06 Charger RS experienced a similar problem. It was related to the OEM security system. I don't recall it ever happening with my truck, but it might be something to consider.

Don't know if you have a VATS key or not (computerized security chip imbedded in the key) but my 07 did that same thing. The key "lost" its program. If you have a spare key, give it a shot.

I doubt our old school 01's are that sophisticated, it's just a plain old key......
