This is my understanding too.

If I remember right the weep hole was located on the gasket side of the pump lower side. When they leak the coolant will run down below the pump against the block and the drips will show up on the AC compressor bracket. This vent hole is something else. I think there is more going on here than just a lack of a vent hole. These water pumps have not been holding up very well ever since they started using the belt to run the power steering pump. The early trucks the power steering pump was gear driven. I had well over 250,000 miles on my 89's water pump. The pumps on my 05 couldn't last past 40-50k miles. I'm currently pushing 82K miles on my 2013's pump...
My 04.5 pump is now seeping at 133K. Need to replace it and have the replacement on the bench. I say seeping because it's not a severe leak. Just a few drips. Point being is that the failure is not catastrophic failure, like a shaft breaking. At least it's giving me a chance to replace it on my own terms and not broken down on the road. I hope my 14 is as considerate. I'm only waiting to install because I need to store up enough plasma for the bleeding that will happen due to my age. Everything I scrape against now means a trip to the medicine cabinet. Golden years, my butt. Beats the alternative though.
You know, they can kick me off the forum for participating as a vendor, but in this case it is more like a public service announcement.
Before we offer these to the general public, the Geno's Garage folks will take care of family.
The pumps are 49.95. We have 30 in stock.
We have no idea if you would receive any reimbursement from Chrysler under the rules set forth in the recall as the notice references a repayment for a "prior repair."

I just received the AC/Delco Professional water pump that I ordered from Amazon as a spare to take on my winter trip South.
It has a weep hole and a VENT HOLE and it also has a very nice looking metal impeller.
I'm actually impressed with this pump. Hopefully it will work as good as it looks if I need to use it...
Where is it made?
