When towing in the smokeys (Appalachians around the Smokey Mtn National Park), I've seen EVIC temps of 212-216.

I can't remember definitatively if it was the coolant or the calculated oil temps that was higher. I think it was coolant 212° F. And calc oil temps 216*.

That was 2 1/2 years ago. Haven't seen it that high since

So I'm thinking my water pump is likely to last my winter trip

ALL water pumps have the weep hole.....NOT ALL have the vent hole.

Yeah that is the problem with some of these Youtubers; big rush to get a video up and fail to take the time to actually research that what they are proclaiming as fact when it's not. Unfortunately, some viewers who don't know any different, take what they see on these videos as fact. I know this the 2nd time this guy has put up videos on our trucks that contained wrong information.

If I remember right the weep hole was located on the gasket side of the pump lower side. When they leak the coolant will run down below the pump against the block and the drips will show up on the AC compressor bracket. This vent hole is something else. I think there is more going on here than just a lack of a vent hole. These water pumps have not been holding up very well ever since they started using the belt to run the power steering pump. The early trucks the power steering pump was gear driven. I had well over 250,000 miles on my 89's water pump. The pumps on my 05 couldn't last past 40-50k miles. I'm currently pushing 82K miles on my 2013's pump...

I have seem original water pumps on 3rd gens go past the 200k mark

My 04.5 pump is now seeping at 133K. Need to replace it and have the replacement on the bench. I say seeping because it's not a severe leak. Just a few drips. Point being is that the failure is not catastrophic failure, like a shaft breaking. At least it's giving me a chance to replace it on my own terms and not broken down on the road. I hope my 14 is as considerate. I'm only waiting to install because I need to store up enough plasma for the bleeding that will happen due to my age. Everything I scrape against now means a trip to the medicine cabinet. Golden years, my butt. Beats the alternative though.

You need to buy some kevlar sleeves for protection. They are available at many car part outlets and I think Harbor freight may even have them now

I went through 4 water pumps on my 05 and my friend is on his 04 is on pump number 5. I was only luck once and caught the pump leaking before it self destructed. All the other times it didn't show an issue until it spit out the belt and dumped coolant all over the place. It's real fun fishing out the broken vanes from the oil cooler part of the water jacket like i had to on the 04. Never got all of them. I'm sure that some have made it many miles. I have yet to see one last. We've tried almost all the pumps available on the market. Gates, OEM from the RAM dealer, CarQuest when they existed. None would last. Like I said in one of my other posts I really wonder if the belt driven power steering pump is putting too much of a load on the bearings. Belt tension-er too tight?

Thanks BOB. Those sleeves might save my life. Friend brought some in some about one year ago and they were too small for my forearms but I am sure there are other venders out there. My dad had forearms like Popeye and I got part of those along with 2XL glove hands. Try fitting those into tight spots. NOT! When I find work gloves that fit, I buy the entire stock. Off the topic but I sure wish we could get good parts like we used too.

Cummins has released the new water pump for the 2013 to 2018 Ram trucks with the 6.7L.
Right now the price of them is not bad but who knows how long that will last.
The new Cummins part number is a 5473057.

You know, they can kick me off the forum for participating as a vendor, but in this case it is more like a public service announcement.

Before we offer these to the general public, the Geno's Garage folks will take care of family.

The pumps are 49.95. We have 30 in stock.

We have no idea if you would receive any reimbursement from Chrysler under the rules set forth in the recall as the notice references a repayment for a "prior repair."

Do these pumps you have in stock have metal impellers?

Yea, I'm confused as the failed pumps that FCA analyzed had coolant coming from the nose of the water pump. They measured 1256 deg F at the pump housing. Did these failed pumps even have a weep hole? Honestly, until this recall, I never heard of both a vent hole and a weep hole. Your thoughts.

I just received the AC/Delco Professional water pump that I ordered from Amazon as a spare to take on my winter trip South.

It has a weep hole and a VENT HOLE and it also has a very nice looking metal impeller.

I'm actually impressed with this pump. Hopefully it will work as good as it looks if I need to use it...

I replaced my recalled water pump with a Gates at an independent shop and submitted a reimbursement request to FCA online. I received a check for the labor and coolant from FCA in one week. No payment for the Gates, but I am still a happy camper!

Where is it made?
