So after multiple attempts to fix throttle lag which I feel is unsafe in cross traffic I have considered adding a tuner to my 3500/Aisin and discussing real issues with warrenty and excuses dealership might make attributing non tuner related issues to the addition of a tuner. If I can get a reasonable response I might consider adding. So the question becomes what works best with my new truck. I hear that the Aisin cant be modified/controlled by the tuner so is this a big issue. I have used the smarty jr with the 03 and loved it, no problems.

Running a tuner will affect any power train components. The head gasket will have a much reduced lifespan. The Aisin trans will live ok if you do not use the torque a tuner will deliver in the absence of protective software.I am sure you already are aware of the federal laws on tampering with the emission equipment.
The risk of 50 state smog testing is real, just a matter of time. From what I see the programmers are offering minimal support when problems arise.A few of the companies that developed delete systems have been shut down/ran for the hills.
I’ve seen prices from 3-5k with installation, with negligible mpg increases and decreased mpg in many cases.Good luck making your choices.

Have you tried the BD Throttle Sensitivity Box? Set on 100% it will totally move the truck out of the way and not void any warranty.

About 70% of what Bob said is just not true. Please don't listen to anyone from California on deleting your truck. It's just a bad idea. The head gasket life will not be shortened if you are responsible with your driving and towing and I highly doubt there will be emission testing in all 50 states within the next 20 years (again the Californians are brainwashed). I have my '16 w/ Aisin tuned with High Power Performance (HPP) and really like it a lot. There customer service is second to none even on the weekends when they are not open they will respond if you have an issue. I am getting about 2 mpg better since deleting also. The problem with these forums is that people with no real world experience answer based on things they have read somewhere else. It's really sad.... If you did get your truck tuned, I would highly recommend Ez-Lynk with HPP from https://www.rollinsmokediesel.com/pd-2013-2018-cummins-6-7-hpp-ez-lynk-upgrade-package.cfm. It's about $1700 for programmer, exhaust and egr delete.

:-laf I'm guessing here that you don't know much about Bob4X4 and what he has been doing for the last 30 years or so.....:-laf

I concur with the BD box, and use tow-haul setting so it downshifts more aggressively. Much of the lag is from the ecm waiting for the trans to downshift. For fuel economy, in regular setting, downshifting is delayed until needed, determined by your foot.

Bob 4x4 is in Cal, but he does know what he is talking about, having been a top quality tech for decades.

People hear the word tuner and automatically assume hot rod and beat the crap out of your truck. So this stigma automatically diverts to the threads of torn up transmissions, bad headgaskets, bad mileage, etc. It's just not always the case. I'm a 50 year old man and have run tuners for years. Like anything mechanical, you have to be responsible with it and not abuse it. A good tuner will give your truck better fuel mapping, better timing, better shift points with more pressure (will actually help your transmission live longer), better throttle response, lower egt's, less torque management, ect. Nothing bad comes out of a good tune unless you choose to abuse your truck like so many do and then run to the forums and Facebook to complain about how the "tuning" tore up there truck. It's like saying it's the guns fault for killing someone. Ridiculous! A good tuner will give you different hp level options. I personally only run the 30hp tune. Anyways, I have also been a performance diesel tech for years so to ask me if I know who Bob 4x4 is is silly. He can be wrong just like anyone else....... It's his personal opinion just like everyone's on the internet

Say what you will,I have been fixing the aftermarket mishaps for years.I should thank the programmers for sending me so many head gasket jobs.
The smog test hassles are real even in the great state of Texas it is happening,I know the Dallas area requires it now as it is in many states in the high density areas.
The op must have his concerns since this is about his third time posting the same question.

You might also want to follow the Rolling Smoke Diesel Facebook group to see all the whining with the problems the deleted trucks are having.Multiple head gasket failure per day even after adding head studs along with all the other cel isssues.Deleting is not the end all.

I vote for the BD throttle booster also. Mine turned my truck into a completely different ride.

I don't condone deleting.....at least until my warranty is up. Once I have to fork over big money to replace emission equipment after the warranty is up, my truck just might have parts falling off..... if I still own it.

Never said it was Bob. Again, that is a ridiculous statement! You know as well as I do that the majority of issues come from the people that are running around on level 5 and not being responsible. Just like any FB group or forum, you usually only see the problems posted, not all the success stories of people that have had nothing good for years like me out of tuning. Say what you will, I have changed many head gaskets too, but 90% of them are from abuse or drive pressure from the VGT turbo. Do you have creditability on this forum? Apparently yes, but most of it is also your opinion. Everyone has one, so to tell the OP that all tuning is going to shorten the life of his HG's is silly. What about telling him that if he stays stock he is going to be in the shop every other week for emission related issues? Oh yea........... you Californians don't have any option with that. I forgot!

My OPINION comes from working on CTDS since their inception.5,6 days a week, stock and modified.Every head gasket I have changed on a 6.7 has been on a deleted truck.I have had many high mile car haulers and tow trucks with original head gaskets at 300k.
I have nothing against mods, all my vehicles get improved. What I see too much of is the shops not telling both sides of the story,

Bob.....were the head gasket issues you've encountered a result of pumped engines? On forum B, it seems that those who delete are pushing for higher HP/torque, so I could see where that will cause failures. However, if someone simply deleted emissions and kept it at stock or close to stock HP/torque levels, I can't see where it would put any more pressure on the OE equipment. But I'm not a mechanic, so I could be completely out of line.
