After watching Mr Blairs YouTube video on this service and laughing my A$$ off at all the F bombs I chose I Best grease mine. Mr Blair you made my gut hurt but thanks for the video it helped a lot.

I will say I am glad I attempted this due to the new red Amsoil grease I pumped in come out the back as well. No factory grease! It took a total of 8 pumps to get grease out the back! She was bone dry on a new Ram.

Here is the tool I used along with the small handheld grease gun.

The first time doing this sucked! But it will be fast & easy now! As always it helps 200% to have the proper tools for the job!

I will be honest! A few years ago the neighbor down the street had one of those silly garage sales things. Me & my Very Cold (SOL) beer took a stroll down just to take a look see.

They were moving & was trying to sell everything!

I found 2 packs of small tubes Amsoil grease.
The wife sold me both 3 packs for $2. New never opened!
Gave one pack to my son to use on his 2014 GMC Z71.

This is the only Amsoil product in my garage!

Not a fan of having to pay a member fee as well as expensive shipping costs & now tax for anything online.
I’m not spending over $100 just to receive free shipping.
Honestly I don’t care about other owners wild fetishs ——> Wastes way to much energy!

I have nothing against the products themselves (Top Tier). I’m not doing the $$ game.
When I can spend less & achieve very similar results! Just Me!

Anyway: I figure every (Nov) when I do my 1 yr OCI. I can give this knuckle joint a couple squirts.
Since this unit will only be really used during the winter months.

I combined the two for a handy tool that will reach , and is small enough to carry along in my on board maintenance box.
remove the tip from the Oregon tool , use a propane torch to heat the threaded end of the adapter enough to melt the plastic end of the tool.
screw them together quickly before it cools . you will have a leak free , permanent joint.

Did you try just the push greaser tool?

I might stop by Tractor Supply and pick one of these up just to give it a try.
 
Nice, same basic idea as mine (see previous video post) I like having everything rigid. The small grease gun is a great idea. With a hose it was pretty tough without an extra hand.

I use a gun that is operated with one hand ( pistol type) that leaves one hand free to use the tip so the flex hose & a 6” needle works well for me

Did you try just the push greaser tool?

I did try it , but found it to be a bit awkward. so I added the extension.
it works well enough that I rotate the joint to the top and can feel the pocket for the tip , and do it blind.
I get better leverage.
Also if the grease is cold it is tough, just warm it up first. I use a light bulb on the joint for 20 min and keep the grease gun inside, makes things flow much better.
 
After reading this thread, I used the same Lincoln 5803 needle from O'Reilly and a standard short hose grease gun like the ones some of the guys in this thread have shown. I cleaned the lube point with a Q-Tip which worked better than anything else I tried - also read about that idea somewhere on here or another forum. The setup worked like a charm.

To save you some reading:

The lube point was totally invisible before I grabbed the Simple Green and a rag and started cleaning around the area where I expected to find it. After cleaning with the Q-Tip it was a clear silver circle surrounded by black and surface rust. Clearly visible. There are 4 "positions" where you'll have to look for the lube point as you rotate the shaft. There is actually a shaved channel in one of them which leads directly to the lube point. If you look carefully, you'll see that it's different than the other 3 locations.

The driveshaft on my 2014 DOES rotate freely in park with all four wheels on the ground - no jacking needed.

I put three squeezes in and could hear the grease bubbling inside and then see it out the back of the joint.

I'm embarrassed to say that I have never done this until now. I doubt the dealer ever did either during an oil change. Fortunately, like most of us, I have relatively few miles of spinning-front-driveshaft...

I have done this in the past, but today I couldn’t find the stupid thing for the life of me!

Took it to the dealer and 10 minutes and 14.00 later it was done!

Gotta really consider that as well worth the time and money!
Especially when the thermometer is way up!

Agreed, it can be pretty hard to find once it gets dirty.
 
When you find it scribe a mark so you can find it next time. I used a scribe and made several passed so its easy to find the spot. Who ever made this design should be made to go truck to truck and grease them for free.
 
Just curious, since this thread is on the topic of lubing the front u-joint, are there any other zerks we should be on the lookout for? I have an '18 2500 4x4 and found the tiny fitting, but could not find any other zerk fittings. Kind of surprising...
