Removing Dents

Buying a used lift

Well the hits just keep on coming. I just ran over to the school to pick up my daughter from a dance. I pull in the driveway with my 07 and get out to find oil running off the bottom of the oil pan. The bottom of the pan and back on to the front of the trans and even over on to the control arms is covered in oil. So, either the darn rear seal let go in spectacular fashion, or there is a hole rusted through the pan.

I'll take some pictures in the morning when I crawl under it and get your opinion.

One step forward and two steps back.

Hey it could be worse! You made it home. Milder weather is coming.
And I don’t know what you’re using for what purpose (seems like the Ford is winning) but at least you’re not headed out on a camping trip with it or some other long run.

Very true.

The wife has been daily driving the Ford now for the last couple of months. She normally drives the 2010. But, she's been liking the heated seats and remote start on the Ford an awful lot lately. Ive been running the 07 and the 2010 has been sitting.

I'm going down to do some work at my buddies shop this morning. I'll put it up on the lift and see what I find. If it's something major, it will just have to sit until I get around to it. She can go back to running the 2010 and I'll take the Ford back. I'm so thankful we have this spare truck right now.

Well boys, oil pan rusted through.

Heat and road treatment chemicals......I've got a picture of a Cat two cylinder air compressor that the City of Bangor just turned in for a core credit against a new Reman....plow truck of course...

It's on my phone, stand by....

I think that there are a couple of options if purchasing a Cummins pan. One costs waaay less than the one that will come up with your ESN as I recall...

Now there’s 3 choices.
Cummins
Spectra
Sno Depot stainless.
I would shy away from the spectra, I bet it won’t last long at all.
It all boils down to your long term plans.

I put a Cummins pan on the 04.5 when it rusted through. I'll probably do that again. What are your thoughts on the stainless?

Yes, I meant that there at least two choices within Cummins itself. I think I would consider the stainless aftermarket offering if you are going to keep it for a while....provided the price isn't totally out of reason...

If you any of you guys know Andy Sebek from Keystone Diesel, he and I will be doing the new pan. We've been friends for 20+ years, were groomsmen in each other's weddings, etc. I work with him quite a bit and we should be able to tackle that job in a long Saturday.

Pays to have talented friends.

Also, everyone please keep in mind that water/moisture will migrate to bottom/underside of oil. In other words, rust can happen from inside out as well. Usually your first indication of rust on bodies is a bubble under the paint. As far as Zeibart, I am not a fan. Seems it traps moisture. Krown treatment or fluid film would be my choice.

I thought about it, but talking with Wayne he sayz its only 308? - the cheap version of stainless, should be 316 to last.
A 308 would have been painted to withstand the elements for longer time.
And my opinion - those stainless pans are real cheap made, no cleaning, no pickling after welding, nothin.

So for me, it the time comes, and it will, then i go with an OEM pan again, it lasted till today 15 years and thats not to bad.
Of course its Fluid filmed every fall.

Thanks for the information on the stainless. Looks to be best to just go with another Cummins pan.
