I checked mine when this post started and it looked tight to me. ( I did not have any way of checking the torque) I received my recall from FCA last week. Called the dealer and scheduled an appointment early this morning to get it in and out quick. They had it for 1 hour and came back and said the 2016's were NOW not required to perform the fix. WTH???? I the SR why? He did not have an answer. Oh Well!!!

FCA is stepping on their thing in regards to this important issue. File a complaint on www.NHTSA.gov . Somehow we have to awake the sleeping giant!

When the tie rod ends are replaced, the steering wheel will need to be re-centered. Folks like me who keep a truck forever will have to deal with it.
True.... But I'm not happy with the "Fix" but as a stop gap measure to keep our trucks on the road it works. In the end the Drag link asy should be replaced. Ram just can't make them fast enough to replace them all today. And a large bunch of us will trade in our truck way before the tie rod ends will need replacement. Hell I've got well over 100k miles on my 13's steering linkage and everything is still tight. Granted it's not the same system the recall is talking about, but a tie rod end is a tie rod end....

I'm sure that the Engineers have figured what the all out max torque is for the drag link and the spec they are testing g it to is not past the failure point. You can tell when something tightens up solid and is good. Ex. wheel lug, head bolt. And you can tell when it's going to fail. No Good shop Tec is going to sign off on a work order that has a part in it that just does not feel right. That part is the one going to be replaced.

My biggest gripe is they ( FCA ) cant say that they eventually will swap out the link with the upgraded one or if that is even a option , the repair might be all you get , even if they do bet it will months before you get one

With a couple documented complete failures and more to follow, they will ALL GET REPLACED, just hope no one gets hurt in the mean time. What we are seeing is FCA effort to keep them on the road while work through the process. SnoKing

My new Synergy drag link just showed up .. Wow its really made well . I hate to have to wait to put it on till the funky Dealer fix is done and recall is cleared , oh well

I took mine in to have the toe checked at local dealer Monday morning appointment. Was getting heavy wear on outside of right front and had the V06 letter. They claimed they adjusted toe, torque value was good and they said that they MIG welded the nuts. I have no idea what that means but everything seems to work in the truck - as in no strange effects of the process. I took the advice of Cummins12V98 and had Discount Tire front rotate tires only and w/same rotation. They also balanced & new valve stems. Inflated to 80psi.

I noticed the tpms sensors come witn valve srens. I dom't know if the tpis sensors also come with the valve stems. (One part number orders the stem and sensor unit???) I guess you can unscrew the valve stems from the sensors if they need to? And i guess there us a separate part number for the valve stems alone?

What “that “ means is when you have front end parts replaced they won’t be able to center the steering wheel when it’s aligned. Did you happen to ask if the tech doing the welding was certified? I’ve seen photos of some real hack work on this bulletin.

Just bought my '14 5 weeks ago. Dealer I bought it from didn't even do weld fix. Now it says parts avail for mine. Hopefully I get a new one out of the deal, alot of play in sleeve like JPM's. Been loose a while it looks like...

If a vehicle has been modified so that a recall can not be performed (as in the case of your aftermarket link) FCA can be notified and make the determination that the recall can not be performed and you will be good.

But …. They might not clear the recall , stay flagged . Maybe not that big of a deal , dealer said if other warranty claims come up might be issue . At this point I'm going to have them perform the repair then put the new link on

I did not read all 19 pages to see if this has been brought up but as someone who deals with these trucks daily Im not convinced there is a problem with the physical parts but incompetent technicians.

If the drag link jamb nuts get tightened down and the tie rod ends are not on the same plane with each other / full range of motion / in line with each other then they will get into a bind and put that rotational force into the draglink causing the nuts to loosen up. Similar issue to the early 08.5+ steering breaking tie rod ends, they would get into a bind and there was nothing else to give so the TRE broke, the fix was to key the 2 ends so that they were always in line. If the dealer or some one welds the jamb nuts but does not check the TRE angles first it will likely cause the TRE to break and that is worse then a loose nut.

I have personally adjusted probably 20 draglinks and none have came loose but I always rotate the TREs to the limit of there movement before tightening the nuts to ensure both ends were in line.

If any of you have ones that look like Carolina Cummins with rust and obviously been loose for a while I would stop driving it immediately as the structural integrity of the threads have been compromised and the draglink could pull apart.

My 2016,2500 left thread jam nut was loose about an 1" everything else was tight Mine has never seen an alignment other than at factory has the blue lines like in the previous photo tightened it up with some low strength loc-tite and then did the rubber sleeve and stainless hose clamps. Truck has around 20,000 miles on it. As been said will start checking it at oil changes or between if not putting miles on it.
Screw the dealer welding on the truck after the week long they had it for the water pump!
