Just a little quick snooping on the Cummins site, and they have a Euro Spec ISF 3.8L engine that looks like it could be tuned for reasonably competitive ratings. 280 KG=560 LBS. Doesn't state iron or aluminum block/head.

https://www.cummins.com/engines/isf38

ON EDIT:
It looks like this is a CHINESE joint venture Foton engine:mad:

Todd or Ozy, are you familiar with this unit???

That's the big brother to the 2.8 Cummins is marketing stateside for retro vehicles past a certain age (no emissions). Basically a clone of the old 4b. Rear Gear train, cam in block. Even sports an HX40 turbo.
Unfortunately I don't think they could meet tier IV in the current configuration but I could be wrong.

To help Ram 1500 just put a 4 cylinder Cummins to 8 speed done, get rid of there Joke Eco diesel period!

There we are, 4 Cylinder - FIAT has extremely reliable 4 Banger Diesels on the shelf out of the ProMaster and Daily Vehicles. They run almost forever - but you won't find buyers for a 4 Banger when the other 2 sells V6 Engines.
FCA would have put that engine into the 1500th if there would be a market for it because it is way cheaper then the VM.

Yes, no way to use it in a first world country today, Euro3 is the level my 2004 has, Euro4 is 2008 Ram level. Even second worls countrys switching now to Euro5, Brazil for example or South Africa.
Long gone, easy and reliable engines.

I bought a new 2018 Laramie CC 4x4 last March in lower 48 and drove it home to AK. I'm getting ready for its first oil change at 8K miles. Don't expect it to have the giddy up of our Cummins, but for most part I'm happy with my purchase. I expected to get better mileage at average 22-23 mpg each fill up. I can hear slight engine noise at idle or if my foot is into it, otherwise it's pretty quiet at highway speeds. To be honest I miss hearing turbo noise. The ride difference from my dually is night and day as it should be. It's nice to jump into a pickup and not cringe each time I come across RR crossings or frost heave. I did purchase factory extended warranty that covers everything including emissions cleaning ect to 100K. I still own my '03 in case I need it. I kinda sorta wish I had waited for the updated version of the 2020 for better all around pickup, but I got one of those deals too good to pass up. I would likely purchase another EcoDiesel. It would be nice if Ram would offer factory tune for these older versions, don't see it happening.

Somebody upthread mentioned Jeep. The 3L in our pickups has all the mounting bosses too low for Jeep to brag about 30” fording depth. VM developed a new block with all the same internals for higher mounting of the alternator.
It’s supposed to be a 2020 option, now.

I’m not following you. What do mounts have to do with Jeep’s fording depth?

I have a 2018 Ecodiesel. I have had several issues with it, including loss of power while towing 7k pounds up a long hill (twice), almost causing an accident both times. I was trying to maintain 65 mph. I also had the cruise control engage itself without being initiated.
As of right now, it has been in the service department for 58 days, for those issues, the fender flares peeling off and an EGR cooler failure. I still don't have a date for getting it back.
I asked FCA for a buyback a couple of weeks ago, will see where that goes. If their answer isn't satisfactory, I will be calling a lemon law attorney.

Great first post.

I was on TDR a long time ago, when it was a paid membership site. I have had a couple of Cummins in the past, and plan on another when this all blows over.
I got sucked in by the great fuel mileage, and somehow expected the 3.0 to be a baby Cummins. I was wrong and I miss both of my old diesels.

Seems like you either get a good one or you don't. There are too many with problems but in the same breath I'll say most maybe 95% are great. My 2014 has been flawless. GDE tuned early on and never been in the shop. 26-28 MPG average with highway trips averaging 30-32 MPG all hand calculated. It's not for towing heavy, but overall unbeatable reliability and fuel economy for me.

Stop sale order is due to the egr cooler recall that pertains to some 2014-2019 eco diesels . Iirc Vb1

RAM has changed the ENG in different ways so it is A new Eng and they have fix the parts that was giving them trouble more HP more fuel millage I would not be afraid to by a new 2021 I have 147.000 miles on my truck looking for 200.000+ OIL FUEL FILTERS and oil and good fuel has a lot to do with your truck I change every 6000 Miles fuel in IL sucks you want 40 but 50 is better about .05 a gal different
