I accidentally got some fuel on the connector while it was unplugged. I wiped it down best I could then re-connected it. Maybe that causes the light. I’ll disconnect then spray it up with contact cleaner to see how it does?

When the circuit is closed the light comes on. Mine is just unplugged and hanging too.
So if I just unplug this connector & leave it the light should go out? Right now it’s plugged in (light on) & the filter was drained through the filter sensor. No water in filter but light stays on.... ( at this time I cannot open hood cuz truck is covered by a foot of frozen snow/ice. This storm gave us a beatin)

Or, they’re wet. I steam cleaned the engine when I replaced the front seal. Got in the truck to back out of the shop and the WIF light was on with no sensor. It went out before I got home.

That’s what I may be thinking because I accidentally got the female end of the plug wet with fuel not too long before I connected it. I had wiped it good, thought about contact cleaner spray, which I did have but I figured it would be fine. After initial connection I took truck for a test drive after the new lift pump & fuel line section, new filter install and solenoid relay replacement. All was good & truck ran great. There was no light during drive. When I got home while parking, the light lit. I’ll try the contact cleaner trick when I’m back under hood. If light remains I’ll just unplug it & see how it reacts.
Thanks guys for your replies. Now I’ll be able to get rid of a bed load of crap that’s in it. I’ll let you know how I make out.
(You had to do a front seal?? Damn, thats not a fun job...)

I just checked my records. Over 270k since I double sealed the front cover. Still dry as a bone.

Ok so my work has be completed. Lift pump replaced. Overflow valve replaced. Fuel filter replaced. Fuel solenoid removed & cleaned up/reinstalled. New relay. Truck runs great now. One last issue that needs my attention is WIF light won’t clear. Filter has been flushed through sensor. No water at all. Contact cleaner sprayed on both male/female sides of plug. Prongs straight & clean. Plugged back together. Light stays on. I unplugged sensor. Light still stays on. Ideas anyone? I’m scratchin’ my head....

The plug wire is shorted out somewhere, possibly to each other. The light only illums with continuity.

So maybe I’ll start by disconnecting then cutting the plug off on harness side to see if light goes out. This will prove that plug is bad I would think then, no?

If you do I suggest you leave enough wire to reconnect it in case the plug is good. Maybe just cut one wire to start.

Yes that actually entered my mind after I thought about it more. When I get to try it I’ll let you know what the outcome is. I want to thank you for the assistance you’ve shared along the way. I really appreciate your input. I know we love our trucks. Mine since the day I picked it up 23 years ago when it came in on the car carrier. I had ordered it 4 months prior & that day I just took a chance ride by the dealership before I got the phone call from them. Out front was the rig with 5 pickups on it. One of them was mine. It was awesome.....I’ll keep you posted
