does anybody know what the gross vehicle combined weight rating is on my truck which is a Dodge ram 3500 dually with the aisin transmission and the high output 1000 lb torque engine with the 410 rear end because it does not say it on my registration.

It does not list GCVWR???????

I think they made a mistake at the DMV they only put 14,000 on the registration???????

The DMV sells you what was asked for, not a mistake, if you did not ask for a larger registration most of the times they register the GVWR at my local dealers.

NJ will let you buy anything you would like it's basically on you, you can reduce it to say 8800 if you dont tow anything.

Depends on the state you are in how that part works on your Registration.

Sounds like you registered the GVWR at the 14k which is how they would have sold it to me in NJ with out asking any questions my dealer defaults to the GVWR.

GCWR 39,100 from what I recall.

Check with your state, and possibly the states you will be driving in if commerical, rules could vary.

The GCVWR, is a Dodge rating, that they use for their warranty guidelines. Your registration is another issue, every State is different, when it is weight registration. In Comifornia for instance, I had to declare the GCVW and pay the tax on that number. If your towing commercialy, you'll need to contact your DMV for the rules and guidelines. But beware, you might see your registration costs double.

I went to register my 07 C&C for 26K, when I planned to tow commercial, I was told that the dealer registered it wrong. I had to go through a vehicle inspection and get it weighed, before they would register it. From that point on I had issues with insurance & registration, even when using as a private use only. But my 3500 DRW was a C&C, so it was the VIN that changed everything, and I will never buy a C&C vehicle again.

Are you in NC? I seem to remember that.

Here is a good reference they have posted on their site.

Has some good contact numbers at the end, give them a call an discuss your exact case.

There is GVWR and GCWR, both are official terms that OEM’s and DOT’s use.

There is no such term as GVCWR or GCVWR, despite people trying to use them.

Some states have you register for a GVWR and some for a GCWR.

Idaho registers GCWR so I pay for 26K. They don’t care what Ram put in the brochure, just what I pay for.

Your GVWR is 14,000 and GCWR is 43,000.

The way I understand it is.....most RV transport companies want your registered weight / plated weight at 26,000 lbs.

Any time you go through the scales, commercially, the base plate on your truck should cover the truck plus whatever trailer you’re delivering.

An inadequate plate will yield you an over the registered weight ticket. If you’re plated for 14,000 lbs.....any combination in excess of that weight is subject to a fine.

VA has all.sorts of weight charts for all types of use.

Consensus is you are under registered for doing what we understand you to be using the truck for and should most likely adjust accordingly.

The dealer most likely just processed this as per a normal everyday person, some dealers have very good registration folks. Not saying yours does not, just they did not ask all the questions or were not provided all the info at the time.

Commercial hauling you need to pay for the next even ton above the heaviest combined weight you will be hauling. Someone please correct if I am wrong.

26k is not much if you want to haul a DRV for example that can easily be 18-20k unloaded.

Unfortunately......everything changes with a registered weight in excess of 26,000 lbs. One is now looking at enrolling in a drug consortium, enrolling in IFTA, and one will be required to track fuel purchases (gallons) and miles traveled in each state. Registered weights in excess of 26,000 lbs will immediately throw an RV transporter into running an ELD (electronic logging device) unless their truck is a 1999 or older.

RV leasing companies do not desire the headaches of most of the above; that’s why they mandate 26,000 lb plates.
