The GCVWR, is a Dodge rating, that they use for their warranty guidelines. Your registration is another issue, every State is different, when it is weight registration. In Comifornia for instance, I had to declare the GCVW and pay the tax on that number. If your towing commercialy, you'll need to contact your DMV for the rules and guidelines. But beware, you might see your registration costs double.
I went to register my 07 C&C for 26K, when I planned to tow commercial, I was told that the dealer registered it wrong. I had to go through a vehicle inspection and get it weighed, before they would register it. From that point on I had issues with insurance & registration, even when using as a private use only. But my 3500 DRW was a C&C, so it was the VIN that changed everything, and I will never buy a C&C vehicle again.
