Which eight LT tires?

Pinbox mounted bike rack/receiver

Look at the Big Tex 70 series.
I've looked at the specs of all BigTex models, as well as Cam, Sure-Trac, and PJ. I'm leaning towards a Diamond C GTF 18', 9890 GVWR as it seems to have the best bang for the buck. Plus the dealer quoted 20% off list.

The other problem around here is nobody has anything on the lot and lead times are 4-6 months! If I need to order something I need to be sure it will suit my needs. I find it hard to buy something from a spec sheet. I'm a look & feel kinda guy... ;)

Mark,
this or similar would work. Even though I have other storage available, I store and transport my tractor in the car hauler.

That Diamond C appears to be a fine trailer. 6" channel frame v/s PJ at 5". Some options I would consider are, 2nd brake, adjustable hitch, diamond plate fenders, rub rail and no surprise...torsion axles.:)

I was quoted everything but the fenders & axles. I think I can live with the teardrops for my usage.

Diamond C makes great trailers. It appears as though your mind is made up on the suspension, they all have their pros and cons but in reality they all do work.

One thing that hasn't been addressed that I saw is the advantage of a deck over trailer. I'd not buy another with the deck in between the axles. Forget loading anything from the side with that set up. Your either tongue heavy or lite if you load one from the side, not to mention you lose alot of deck width compared to a deck over.

Years ago my cousin and I went in halves on a 18k GVW deck over, we both wanted one but neither could justify (afford) buying one alone. So we shared it off and on over the years. I ended up selling my half to him and bought a smaller 14k GVW tilt deck with the deck in between the axles. At the time I thought it would better suit my needs with a lower center of gravity but that has not been the case. I've found the little bit of difference in center of gravity is negligible and far from worth the trade off in all the versatility and deck width you lose.

In my opinion this is a bigger decision than suspension (for the record, I vote torsion :)).
If I didn't still have access to the 18k deck over when I need to load things from the side or the wider deck space I'd have sold mine a long time ago and went back to a deck over.

Thought about a deckover but not sure I'd need it. Other than lumber I don't see myself needing to side load anything.

On the suspension, are the torsion's better overall, or more suited for highway travel? My primary use would be lower speeds around town.

Plus, as I said, pickings are slim unless I order and wait until March. Also, not sure what the upcharge for torsion is until I contact the dealer Monday.

He's got 1 or 2 configured close to what I spec'd due in late November/early December. I may just jump on one of them regardless of what suspension it has.

Personally take what you can get if you need it.

I waited months for mine this year and then a few weeks out they could not build what I ordered, so I had to settle for what they could build or start from scratch.

In the end I should have took a stock trailer and not had one custom built like that.

I'm pretty sure you will be happy with what you go with. And your all in on the rust proofing you need to do on these, same as your frame make sure to rust prevent the frame and possibly treat the deck if needed.

Hadn’t thought about rustproofing the frame...

Everyone seems to recommend used motor oil cut with 20% diesel to treat the wood deck.

It really comes down to personal decision on wether to hold out and order or buy on site. What is the time frame that you need one? How long do you plan on owning it? If you need something soon and don't plan to own long term I'd be more inclined to make some sacrifices to have something in my driveway now. Knowing what I've been through, and the fact I hold onto things long term I would hold out for what I want.
It really does come down to knowing what you want and prioritizing ones wants/needs.

The plan is to have it long term. I don’t need one today, more likely by spring next year. I have considered waiting until after the holidays before proceeding but the fact that they’re hard to come by has me thinking to decide now and get it ordered. A year ago you could walk on the lot and buy most anything you wanted; now not so much. That’s why I’m researching and asking questions.

I will need something eventually because my 5x10 single axle utility trailer won’t handle the new tractor.

Yeah I could have canceled my order and waited or drove further for a stock unit.

Mine is super nice and exactly what I wanted overall its just 6' longer then my plan and for a 2500 gasser that was a tough ask.

Its a keeper, just now need a DOT number and a bunch of other stuff. So that was not in the plan, keeping under 10k would have been better for me with commerical plates.

My rails hold lots of water for sure.

Have not heard what is the best for the deck, I was just going to use a decent deck product like a Cabots or something.

Mark personally I think your tear drop plan is fine. I wouldn't lose sleep over the suspension differences. Others have made good suggestions. Dual axle brakes. Upgraded lighting. Some manufacturers have better corrosion protection than others. From what I have seen Diamond C is top notch in this department. They are really catching on around here for this reason among others.

During some of my more recent travels delivering some GatorMade product, both to some of their retail lots and some to their dealer network, conversations I’ve had with business owners have indicated that there’s still LONNNNNGGGGGGGGG delays in receiving a trailer ordered today.....from a huge amount of various trailer manufacturers. Some of the craziest things within the supply chain have held up orders from lots of trailer manufacturers, anything from simple, basic shackles used on a wide variety of axles, all the way to an intricate nut or bolt required to complete a 12k EOH disc brake option upgrade.

In a nutshell.......I’d highly recommend ordering as soon as you can. With some of the states experiencing hotspots on the increase, it may wind up getting worse in some areas before it gets better.

Just this week, I delivered 9 gooseneck trailers to one dealer in Loudon, TN. They have a great business, and basically have a very diversified inventory in regards to product lineup.

Thats a sweet system Diamond has. Mine is primered and has a PPG polyurethane paint deal. They do the chemical wash and the sort most paint lines do decent prep.

We already salted the roads out here on Friday was only 36 deg. It rained so the brine was not called up as of yet.

One quick way to see whats up is to search for some used ones in your region like 5yr old of your brand of choice and see how they look.

Mines is 8" I-beam, 3", 5" channel, but they used like 2 six foot pieces of 2" rectangular stock for something that the water makes it way into. Always something, I was pretty surprised when I pulled it out the first time and 2 large puddles of rust were dripping out of the thing. There is no way any MFG is going to do the internal of that kind of stock. Just an oversight I'm sure.

Will check out that deck stuff.

I know I'm making a serious left turn here, but the best investment I made in trailers was in 2010 when I bought my PJ 14ft dump trailer. Its HD, last haul with it, It weighed out at 21K lbs hauling 6 cubic yards of crushed asphalt. It has 2 ea 8K lb axles, upgraded g series trailer tires, has HD ramps that allows my tractor w/ front end loader and backhoe on it. three way tail gate is way versatile, I use it split side open ratcheted tight around the backhoe. I know i.mentioned it before, but it sure does complete the big tool box.

Anyhoo, just throwing it out there again to see if it gets a spark.

Cheers, Ron
