Ron, I am not sure if John put a boost fooler option or not or if one is needed, but I have that option install on my Smarty. An I would recommend a boost gage with a EGT gage to be installed on your truck. I am using them along with a transmission temp gage. When towing my 5ER I can see between 30 and 35 PSI boost pressure even on slight grades with EGT’s around 900F in 5TH gear doing 65 MPH. When in 6th gear the engine could be around 1100 to 1200 F, with the boost pressure could be around 20 or 25 PSI, so I will down shift to 5th gear to keep the EGT’s down.

The Smarty is set on CaTCHER 3 with all parameters set to normal.

just a suggestion.

I think 27 PSI is about as high as I recall seeing. Might need to run the data recorder on my CST2 monitor to record it as lots to keep an eye on and only brief on the maxes. I have a 14 ft dump trailer I've had 21K Lbs on before, but no need for any material. At 12.2K Lbs, the truck is pretty much its own load now.

Thanks for EGT recommendation... just needed prodding to do it, but DW has noticed I've been doing a few me projects, now she has a she-list, slight be a while.

The 6.7Ls seem to have way higher EGT limits than the 5.9s. On my previous 09 Ram 4500 with EGT gauge, I ran MADS 6.7 on Catcher level 5 grossing 33KLbs and never had EGT problems easily ran 1200-1300°F no problemo.

I did have the Performance Module on the 5500 and it did OK, but the custom tunes are way better. I'll report results as I get honey doos done and get a chance to take her out for testing. Installing the EGT on the 6.7s, and particularly on the 4th Gens look to be a major PITA. I figure 2 to 5 hours to get'r done.

Thanks for the info, Ron

No need for a boost fooler on any 3rd or 4th Gen with a smarty, or really any ECM programmer for that matter. You simply tell the ECM how much airflow/boost you want and it runs that much.

You really don’t want a boost fooler on a VGT either, accurate boost readings are very important.

His MM3 or CTS2 will read accurate boost pressures, as will his dash.

RaceMe is the new brand name for the Smarty tuner.

RaceMe is the international version, while smarty is still active in the US.

Ron is using the same hardware but not the RaceMe or Smarty tunes, his is full custom.
