2007, 5.9 which long life diesel coolant?

After having and automatic for 9 years its time to dump it. In a diesel truck I am not compatible with an automatic. So I am going to swap out my 48re for a NV5600. Truck is a early 2004 and does not have all the computer stuff and emmisions 2004.5 and up has. The electrical has more in common with a 2nd gen than a 3rd gen truck.
So I picked up a really nice NV5600 which already had a new South Bend clutch dual disk clutch and SB hydraulics. have the steering column, transfer case, front drive shaft, petals, console stuff, crossmember, and a lot of other stuff. I am missing the correct rear driver shaft.
So here are my questions,
anyone have a rear manual 4X4 four door, 8 foot bed drive shaft they want to sell?
Can someone send me a picture of the shifter hole in the floor and maybe some measurements?
and of course any words of wisdom besides don't do it.
Motor has been greatly upgraded, please see signature.
And thank you for you help in advance.

I don't really have anything to offer, but I know you will be very happy picking up a couple of gears. The 6 spd manual is a a close ratio transmission - a gear for every load and road situation. An exhaust brake would compliment the conversion very well. I think your project is well worth the labor involved.

The 6 speed shifter hole in the floor. The truck I got the parts from was also had been converted from auto to manual and butchered the floor. Guy had just did the conversation, new SB clutch etc, new bearings and sync in transmission and with in a week his son took it off road and hit a tree and rolled the truck

Is the transfer case on your current 48RE a manual shift? What about the new transfer case? I would think you need to get the transmission wiring harness off the donor truck. Will anything need to be done with the ECM now that it won't be seeing the 48RE and will be getting communication from the NV5600?

My current Transfer case is NP271 for an automatic. Which brings up my next question, I just remove the trasfer case from the NV5600, its a NP274-D, what the heck is a NP274-D? can't find anything about it. Looks like my NP271. Only one post on a NP274D on TDR, and no answers.
Wiring no problem, its a early 2004, clutch safety plugs in to the dash harness and the auto transmission is not programmable in the ecm, has a choice of manual or automatic transmission only (Built 2003-2004 early only). Motor wiing harness is the same (i have a spare from a manual truck). If is understand this correctly NV5600 only has a reverse switch electrical connection.
Still need a rear drive shaft.
Keep Q/A comming
Thanks Kyle

My 04 had the 273-D D is for Dodge as there was a Ford or GM version that did not have the "D" designation. The 273 was a electronically controlled shifting and I think the 271 was manual (lever) shifting.

Correct, only the Reverse light switch on the trans, and the Range position sensor on the T case. A one piece aluminum DS would be a nice compliment to your setup. A decent 4x4 DS shop should be able to take that on no issue.

Sounds like a time consuming headache. Hopefully the truck that you got the transmission from has a complete list of donor parts for you, that aren't damaged.

Time consuming is replacing automatic transmissions more often than brakes ! ;)
Done this swap several times, the key to a successful swap of anything is know your truck. Dodge has had a lot of mid year changes.
I chose this model year because its the very last Dodge Cummins without any emissions. I wanted an automatic because my knees are shot, apparently it's easier to fix knees right now than automatic transmissions. So enough of the bs, I'm going back to rowing gears :)

I got one of each sitting here 04.5 with a nv5600 and a 04 with a 48re, the 04.5 is totaled and the 04 has a bad engine.. take a guess what is happening

Can't remember that my 04.5 has any active emissions stuff. That came with the 6.7

Drop in an Allison?

I went away from Stick exactly because of my left knee, no fun if you need pain pills every day just to do your job. Better think twice.

I would take all of the wiring and computer of the 04.5 and drop it in the 04. The 04.5 computer can be programmed on the fly with the MM3
and the APPS is inside the cab, less issues I'm told. There are a few more bonuses with the 04.5 computer but you would need to ask around.
Other upside 04 truck doesn't have any emissions so you get the best of both worlds.

What emissions does the 04.5 have that the 04 doesn’t?

There are advantages to the 04 engines and to the 04.5 engines.

04 engine, 05 wiring harness/ECM with custom tuning, 04.5+ modded turbo, and an NV5600 would be the best setup.

The 04 doesn't have a cat or EGR. I believe there are less injection events as well. It's rated at 305/555 vs. 310/600. From anecdotal conversation here, it seems the general consensus is that they are about the same power output at the rear wheels.

There is a complete comparison in the buyer's guide between the engines.

The cat isn’t monitored, or really flow restricting so it’s a non event.

There isn’t an external EGR on the 04.5-07 either.

The 04.5-07 does have a bit more power to the rear wheels. 04.5 was 325/600 and 05-07 was 325/610.

As soon as you put a good tune on the 04.5-07, which you should also do on the 03-04, it’s a 2 injection event motor.

The pistons on the 03-04 are better, but the electronics and turbo of the 04.5-07 are better. 05 had the best and most reliable electronics/ECM.

05 has APPS inside cab - 04.5 was the last MY at the bell housing.
Also 05 has the TTQV stepper at the 48RE where the 04.5 still has the TV cable.
The later opened the way to the first.

04.5 is somewhat a Twilight zone.

Still gathering parts, anyone replace the front seal on a NV5600 before? Its not leaking but while its out but why not while its out?
Also been cleaning parts, chasing down bolts, ordered and new rear seal and camshaft o ring, red and blue locktite, extra can of "Right Stuff sealant" (best sealant ever!). got 12 quarts of AMSOIL 5/30 synromesh, new set of Fast Coolers, dual disk South Bend Clutch with hydraulics.
Am I missing anything?
Thanks
Kyle
