Only works on '04's and up, there are no 03. 5, you've got an 03 or an 04. If it's an 04 built after what ever date is in the TSB and you have an auto then it will work.
It is your rear end, mine had the exact same problem at 70mph. Someone on the forum said to use Royal Rurple gear lube(75W-90), I got 4 qts. , put it in and now my rear is much quieter, almost can not hear it. These AAM axles have a serious problem with noise. My '02 Chevy had exactly the same...
Lightman I think you are absolutely correct. Since I bought my truck new, I have filled w/ 12 qts. and have always had bad crankcase odors (no jokes). My last 2 oil changes I have only added 11 qts. and now the smell has completely gone away. My oil level shows right in the middle of the stick.
For the gauge, I hooked up both lights to the dimmer, the two hot leads went to the orange-brown wire behind the headlight switch, and the two black leads go to ground. It's much easier to see at night this way.
