Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Total loss of "go" occationally on hills?

It was not the pump on mine it was the map sensor.

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) dead gas pedal....code p0602

I have been fighting the same thing. VP44 did not cure it. My last try was to change the map sensor and so far so good. But it has gone away before and returned. My would do it when it was really hot but recently started doing it when it was cold as well.

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) FASS turning off & on

I have had a problem with brushes also. I just removed them and reinstalled them and it worked fine after that.

    Archived calling all experts help!

After consulting with a Cummins rep. I have the truck running again. He suggested that I check my fuel pressure one more time. Low and behold there was none from the lift pump. Now I am really peeved. After my second factory pump gave out I installed a FASS. It would not run until I removed one...

    Archived calling all experts help!

I have a problem that I have been fighting for 6 months on my 2001 3500. At random times the fuel pedal goes dead. It is just like you let up off the throttle. I have had it to the dealer twice and they thought it was fixed and it seemed to be for 2 months but now is back. It will go away for a...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) joined the vp44 club

Just wanted to post an update on my situation. I took so long because I did not believe the cure. After changing the VP44 and not fixing the problem the dealer wanted to try a filter on the apps signal to the PCM. Lo and behold it cured it! I have driven it enough miles and through enough heat...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) joined the vp44 club

Well I spoke too soon aparently. The pump got changed and I still have the problem. Now we are stumped. I have 88k on mine but am 2 months out of warranty time wise (ouch). The only trend I have found working this problem is that the hotter it got the worse it got. The only code I have seen is...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) joined the vp44 club

Just found that my vp44 is toast. I started getting the dead pedal on hot afternoons, so i checked my lift pump pressure and sure enough it was less than 5 and would drop to zero. I went ahead and installed a FASS to remedy this as I was on my second factory pump anyway. The dealer said that was...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Hypertech programmer

On grades that I used to shift down on, I can now accelerate up without downshifting. It seems the extra torque comes on strong around 1600. The article showed a gain of around 30 hp and 120 torque to the rear wheels. Time permitting I plan to disable the wastegate and put on a boost fooler and...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Hypertech programmer

Just wanted to share my experience with the Hypertech programmer. I recently used this for my first real power upgrade. I don't notice a lot of difference on level ground but on the grades it made a world of diff. My EGTs and boost ( no wastegate yet) are just the same as stock. The price was...

    BFG Commercial TA's

I have had them for about 5k miles on my dually. They do not ride as well as the original Michilins but the wet traction seems to be better for me.

    Need BFG owner feedback

I have recently put on BFG commercial TA's (235-85-16) and the balance is very bad on these things. I need some ideas myself on how to fix them.

Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Engine cuts out at constant speed

I am battling the same thing. I replaced the apps and the problem went away for about 2 weeks and now is starting to show up again. I have done the battery and ground stuff to no avail.

    john deere/yanmar and kioti

I have read that Branson tractors use an A series cummins. The knock is that the rest of it is built in South Korea.

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Good Deal for a Power puck?

I don't know how they perform, but I noticed that the latest JCwitney truck cataloge has them for 469. 00. In that ad they said it changes timing and it had a boost connection also.

    Dodge and the Cummins Name

In central texas I have mainly seen Cummins in the big trucks. An acquaintance of mine who retired after 30 + years of driving said most of his trucks had Cummins and a few Detroits sprinkled in. I recently looked at a pair of Western stars (nice trucks) that both had ISX's in them.

Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Boost Fooler, but no other mods?

I installed the boost fooler and wastegate device recently and get 23. 5 lbs of boost versus 19. The truck does feel stronger on the grades and egt's are down a bit. I think there is room in the fueling curves to provide some more h. p. but do not know how much.

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) first bombing

An X-hook is a mechanical device to prevent the wastegate from opening on the HY turbo. The boost fooler sits in line with the Map sensor and makes the ECM think that the boost is lower than it is. MAP is one of the parameters that the ECM monitors to determine fueling. It is not unreasonable to...
