That was NOT a dumb question.
In fact, finer filtration (at the pump) is available. If you check "avlube.com" & click on there "Diesel Fuel Filter" forum, you will see a number of "tank" filters & mounting heads. The first one on the list, "Injector Protector", filters down to one micron & sells for $97. 00, on sale. A one micron filter will probably clog up pretty fast with commercial use.
Some of the mounting systems will hold two of those filters, also.
I think it's probably cost prohibitive for a gas station to pay that much for better filtration, for us.
