DDeputy,

That was NOT a dumb question.

In fact, finer filtration (at the pump) is available. If you check "avlube.com" & click on there "Diesel Fuel Filter" forum, you will see a number of "tank" filters & mounting heads. The first one on the list, "Injector Protector", filters down to one micron & sells for $97. 00, on sale. A one micron filter will probably clog up pretty fast with commercial use.

Some of the mounting systems will hold two of those filters, also.

I think it's probably cost prohibitive for a gas station to pay that much for better filtration, for us.

I try not to use stations that don't have filters on the pumps you can see... every time I get fuel at a station that doesn't have visible filters I end up with a bunch of junk in my particulate filter...

Back to the program:

Are these a filter that are already made by FG or are these going to be made just for us... sorta like a group buy??

Those ratings look sweet to say the least! And at 30GPM, we are still good since the 95 only flows 1. 6gpm!!

it will be a group buy for sure, to get prices down thats what i'll be working on next week----trying to get enough Oo.

You may want to double check the spec’s for that filter. A filter that does 30gpm (1,800 gph) while filtering down to 2 micron must be huge or has a high pressure drop across it or has little dirt holding capacity (or all of the above). Something just doesn’t sound right!

you right, it does not sound right, but thats what tech told me several times, the stock fass filter flows that much but will not filter down to 3 mic, this one will ;)

At this point the best System for ease of application and best Filtration is GFS, After the Pump and between the Bypass Valve in the return line back to the tank you can install a standard filter(Spin-on-Head) ,Now you have to be-careful what filter you use or at lease know when the filter is dirty,Some fitters are not certified for ICEs (internal combustion engines), I will use Zinga filters which I use,They are not certified for ICEs, The main reason is when close to full or dirty they will not allow fuel through ( they have NO internal Bypass) although they will start to increase pressure, so when the pressure starts to rise a idle change it. That"s the next question you need to install a pressure gage that reads downstream of the filter,Also I would not use a Aqua-zorb filter No need you already have the stock WIF which is more than up for the job. I have no problem installing a NON-Certified filter in a return application, since it will not interrupt engine function until it is plugged and the pump is effected, either change often or watch your pressure. You have the option of installing a spin on head valve bypass just make sure YOU know the one you have,The reason I don"t like the spin on head bypass ,is you will not KNOW when it is engage, you could be bypassing the filter completely,The GFS system or similar is easy to install and the Pump and filters are easily replaced. All high pressure systems are SOL at this time, the High pressure will just kill the ratings. When changing the fuel delivery system you also want to consider availably,Ryan system is also good.

In the Strom's Last night I am sorry to report 100 homes damage ,30 severely,Seven People injured and One Ten year child died.

Just fyi this is not a good gauge of a quality/well maintained fueling spot. The old style diesel pumps did have big fuel filters exposed on either side that you can see, however the newer style also all have them, they are just inside the housing rather than exposed. The reality of the situation with either is that many times cheap station owners will hollow out the insides of these filters (typically cimtek 10-30 micron NOMINAL rated filters) so they never have to replace them and you end up with a bunch of junk in your tank.

Considering I worked in a gas station for several years, do not EVER assume that the pump has a filter. None of our's did... and I highly doubt most do as it is an "un-needed" expense.

And, even the big name stations don't always have filter... the Sunoco's on the PA Turnpike sure don't, as I have gotten sand in my prefilter from them (and a Love's too)...

Some are located inside the dispenser's housing, while others are located external to the housing and readily visible.

Good grief! That is depressing. Marine outlets have some good funnels with filters inside to get out the crud before it hit's the tank. Would be a PITA to use it every time you fuel. . but if you can't trust the station to have basis 30 micron filter... ...

well its good to go, absolute 3-micron and it doesent have to be in a case lot, at a much better price Oo.

SO whats the outcome of these filters? I have a stock truck and would like to filter out more crap. Just replaced a filter today and theres crap in the filter housing. What system seems to be the best at filtering? Is FASS just a filter system? Sorry a little new to all of this. What about the Cat filter system I saw on a simular post. I think the KISS method is the best, and honestly like the Cat system I saw, Thanks for the help

I have been away from the fuel filtering issue for over a year. So I don't know the current system that is considered best or a good way to go, What is the thinking regarding the Air Dog and are there any better filters for it?

Thanks
