A lot of us have run over the GVWRs and GCWRs of Ram trucks in the past and some still do. If you want to hang your hat on a number, use the max weight rating of your tires. Calculating the max ratings on brakes, suspension, and axles is a leetle harder. Personally, there are other factors besides dead weight. Tall, heavy (maybe some top heavy), winds, grade, curves, and speed start adding other elements to consider. Heck, here in TX, I've seen a Ram pull a 12ft x 60ft mobile home. And I don't think there is any enforcement either. I never got stopped towing 8K lbs over GCWR and just a couple thousand pounds over on the GCWR.

Good luck with you decision(s).

Ive got a dealer that is looking into the differences between the 3500 vs 4500 axles for the higher rating....If its suspension, or brakes, that's one thing. If its the axle, that's another. A truck and a camper with a small 3500lb boat aint' gonna need more brakes...and beefing up a spring pack or sway bar isn't impossible.

That's what I'm thinking anyway....

Yes, rough Trucks, with not enough load on them no Fun.

I concur! I have 52 gal OEM fuel tank, approximately 1800 Lb bed, 60 gal auxiliary fuel tank, ~150Lb hitch, and approximately 400 lbs tools, including two 12Ton jack stands and it rides like a truck, I attribute some of the ride to the 14ply rated tires. Truck, as she sits fueled, me, wife, and two Labs weighs 12.2K Lbs, with 7,300 Lbs dead weight more capacity, as per manufacturer. No math or research of how much it can really haul. How many lbs OP need again?

The defense rests.

It doesn't have load capacities: the manufacturers calculate that in the GVWR.

Actually......2013 through 2018 RAM 3500 DRW trucks w/AS69RC utilized an AAM 11.8 inch / 300 mm rear axle.

Additionally......best of my knowledge, the 2019 3500 DRW are now sporting an even newer AAM with a 12.0 inch rear axle, as @TFucili states.

IIRC the 11.8 was the same housing as an 11.5 with a slightly larger ring gear. The 11.8” ring gear can be retro fit into an OE 11.5” axle.

I also recall reading all R&P’s were swapped to 11.8”.

All 2019 3500’s have the 12.0, SRW or DRW. What I’m not sure of is what is in the 2500. Seems silly to have 2 axles, but then again Ford has 3 axles between F-250 and F-350 DRW.
