As AH64ID alluded to above, it is not only about engine RPM, there is also the torque multiplication from lower gears, which I believe to be the most important factor.

Absolutely, however, when using an extension, most of the time it will be a small/light trailer. If ball weight is 500# on a 48" extension, the receiver hitch will "feel" 2K# (I think:D) but the truck will only have the 500#.
With my 28" double beam Torklift extension ,camper installed , with my 14' enclosed trailer fully loaded ,it unloads the front axle 240lbs and increases the rear axle load by 1140lbs. Actual tongue weight unknown. Handles excellent with those numbers though.

I suspect the purchase to be in Feb.

I expect to do the: Limited, 4x4, LB, Extended cab, 3500 DRW, HO-w/Aisin, 3.73 axle. TorkLift tie downs, Torklift HD hitch w/48" extension. I'd like to add a forward tow hitch for bicycles, but I'm not sure how that will work with the shutters & parking sensors.

I'd like to add:

19.5 tires
Alcoa Rims
Bug Guard
Real front bumper w/winch ... Factory?

You probably will need upper spring torklifts, saw these wheels at the pick up camper rally a few years ago.. Visions I think

If you’re planning on 19.5’s I’d just get a 4500. The increase in frame/suspension/axles warrants 19.5’s, and if you need a DRW 19.5 setup then you need a 4500.

I looked at a video on the hitch extension. I would rather head out to the shop and fabricate a removable tongue extension for the boat trailer. That would put the pivot point and hitch weight where it belongs.

I though about that too, but you don’t get a bed and you get the lower output engine. The brakes, wheels, tires, and decreased turn radius would be a very nice upgrade though.

It’s also harder to find a CC in the trim level you want unless you want a Tradesman.

Plus the availability of 72 gallons of fuel capacity.
