Have you considered a Yugo just might better meet your needs ? :-laf

No I have not, apparently you must have experience with them or you would not have suggested one, which model do you drive?

Guys!

This thread was originally about someone trying to choose between a 2500 and 3500SRW. People posted thier opinions and the guy bought a truck.

It's unfortunate that we've now created a SRW vs. DRW spitting contest! We're all on the same side here (or we should be).

Yes, Duallies are better trucks for hauling heavy, especially as the GVWR on the truck gets over 10,000 lbs, but a SRW suits lots of folks just fine. Buy what you need. The right tool for the job and all that. My '04. 5 is a SRW and although I love my dually for hauling my camper or pulling my job trailer, I don't need two of them.

IMO, if you can work within a 3500 SRW's 9900 lbs GVWR, then why buy a dually. Conversely someone hauling a triple axle, double slide toybox grossing 16,000 + pounds needs a dually.

Maybe we can talk about something less devisive. How about Shortbox vs. longbox, 6spd vs. auto, 2x4 vs. 4x4, dial-a-drive vs. stick, patriot blue vs. white, etc. ? ;)

DPelletier,

I could not agree more, it is just sad how a few of the dually guys seem to think that if it is not a dually it is worthless and cannot be used for anything. This is not the first time one of these threads has turned this way.

I'm with Bertram65. I have to park in a garage at work and no amount of imagination would get a dually between those two curbs at the gate. I wanted a dually, but one has to look at the whole situation before making a choice on what to purchase. As far as parking in other places, I park WAY out--I have no problem walking a couple of minutes to avoid dings.

... . or that a few of the SRW guys seem to think that a dually is totally useless and never needed, even hauling a heavy 5th wheel that carries lots of weight on the truck.

OK, my point is that neither side has completely clean skirts. Here in Texas we have a saying - "Horses for courses", meaning that there's a right tool for every job. Not every truck has the same job, so there's a place for both the SRW and DRW trucks - that's why Dodge builds both.

These guys will all eventually wind up with DRW.
Naw. . if that were the case then the current dually owners would be looking at something more capable- 26,000GVW

In some cases bigger is better, heck I went from a 1500 4x4 QC to my 2500 and that was huge considering the 4. 7 gas vs the CTD and its bigger brakes.

I drove 3500/2500 SRW back to back on the same road. Myself, wife, son and the sales gal all felt the 3500 was more stiff unloaded. Maybe psychological who knows.

Look at the bed rail height. That thing is absolutely worthless as a 5th wheel puller. Now, on the other hand, here's something to move up to:

Look at the ground height. That thing is absolutely worthless on a rough dirt road + with no front axle yopu gotta chain er up in the snow. :-laf

Pretty cool though!

Which just reinforces my earlier statement - Horses for courses. What works for one application (you mentioned off-road) probably doesn't for another (5th wheel towing on the Interstate).

3500 SRW vs Dually GVWR,and or Payload

Anyone got the spec's on the 3500 SRW towings spec's I would assume it would be a bit less that the Dually spec's I find on the Dodge site. Just can't seem to find the spec's for a SRW

Thanks

Click on the link in my sig and you will see link for the 2003 and 2004 towing guides under the 3rd Gen Reference section. If anyone has an electronic copy of the 2005 specs, I'd love to post that too.

Bertram is right, they are essentially the same, although the DRW weighs a little more, and therefore its towing capacity is slightly less, its irrelevent.

But then specs are B. S. , like the Ford F350 claiming 19,200lbs towing capacity, B. S. , if the F350 is completely empty, 2WD, no driver, no fuel, it is over its Max GCWR once you hitch a 19,200 lb trailer to it.

The DRW/SRW differences are when Bumper towed, 1200lbs on the tounge matters not the least, they both work well but I can tell you beyond a doubt that the DRW is much more comfortable, it NEVER wiggles.

However, when I take the 5th, or pull a building on the FlatGoose, I am way over GVWR on the SRW, and the DRW is the only way to go, even though I am still at or just slightly over GCVWR on either.

The DRW tows these big loads like a dream, I'll never tow with the SRW again unless I have too (Like pulling Buildings up to mountain top sites, I've been at 28,000lbs and 8% Grade, on Sand, in reverse, AROUND A CORNER!)

Now I've towed 23,000lbs GCVW with the SRW to Alaska and back with the 315's, covered the Alaska Highway in 2 days flat, 5 Days from Fairbanks to Flagstaff, with the SRW, and I had no real concerns. (BTW, the Rears were worn completely out!)

If you tow for Vacations and Weekends, SRW, if you tow heavy, long trips, mountain contry, have poor knuckle circulation, or like the bad ***** looks of the DRW, go with the DRW.

Don't let anyone tell you its harder to park, it isn't, if you can't park the dually, then you've got dents in the SRW too, it has the same turning radius, fits through all drive-throughs (leave the mirrors flipped down for confidence) and only backs up easier because you can see your own rear tires and fenders in the mirror.

I could be wrong... ... .
