Need info for new tires. I have Toyo MTs, 35s now and they have 52k miles on them. Yep they are toast but I fell they did well for a $380 tire. I would buy them again but guys are telling me that these tires are not the same today as when I bought in 2008 and they don't wear as well. I am willing to spend to get quality but don't know where to start. Anyone have recommendations?

Thanks!

Are you looking to stay with a mud terrain? I had good luck with Mickey Thompson MTZ's. For an all terrain I ran Nitto Terra Grapplers, not very aggressive but did really well in rain and snow. I've got Goodyear Durtracs on the Jeep, not sure how they do on diesels but they're supposedly an all terrain but they look cool.

I've got 16/32" left after 11K,carrying a slide-in popup around all the time. Mine are made here. I think they'll be around for awhile. :)

I've seen firsthand what the weight of a CTD does to a KM2. Premature wear.

I too am looking for new mud style tires. I have run most of them over the years. My last 6 sets of tires have been BFG mud terrains and BFG KM2 mud terrains. Unfortunately BFG doesn't make an E rated mud terrain. I have only one out of 10 tires go bad from a broken belt. Still, this is too much for me. I have heard good things about the Nittos and the General Grabbers. Though they are E rated, they are only rated for aroung 3200 lbs (the same as the BFG KM2 D rated). The Toyos are rated for 3600 lbs. These numbers only apply to 35" tires. It should be noted that on other forums, of people who run Nittos, General Grabbers, Toyos, or BFG, almost all are very happy with them. I don't think Mickey Thomson or Goodyear make an E rated mud terrain.

I am sad to be looking elsewhere for tires. The BFG KM2 mud terrains are probably the best all around, street worthy, mud tires out there. I don't consider a Super Swamper Bogger a street worthy tire (maybe just to get you out to the swamp). BFG does make E rated mud terrains in other sizes, but not 35". Until BFG gets their head out of their butt, I will look elsewhere.

I hate to purchase a Japanese tire, but it looks like my next set of tires will Toyos. I know BFG is owned by Pirelli, but they're made here.

Stay away from Thornburgs by Super Swamper. They were the worst tires I ever owned. They were like marbles in the rain. I got rid of them with half tread.

Good luck with your purchase. Please let us know what you decide

Yeah, I haven't heard of any changes in the Toyo tire except the new production tires are all made here in the states. Light truck tire production has ALL moved here to the USA, mostly due to importation taxes and laws passed since 2008. I haven't had any problems out of any of them, regardless of being made in Japan, China, or USA, with the exception of one set of odd sized 255/85R16. They took a great deal to get them balanced, and finally I sent them back, and Toyo inspected them. I shortly got a refund for the worst of them. That's the only problem I've had in over 10 years with quality control..... As an alternative, I'd suggest the Mickey Thompson Baja Claw. They work better in the mud than the Toyo M/T, IMO. I don't know about longetivity yet, as I have no sets with a great deal of mileage on them... ... . Also, the Cooper SSTs have held up well, but are very pricey, like the Toyo. Their performance in the mud is comparable to the Toyo, and they've seemed to hold up well mileage wise. I have heard one complaint about wet traction, but it wasn't from a reputable source(customer). A good alternative for the price is the Mastercraft M/T, made by Cooper. Good all around tire, for the money, but they won't get the mileage.
