I finally bit the bullet and had a 4" system installed today. After last month's trip with the camper on the truck and towing the Jeep on a trailer, I desperately needed to bring the EGTs down. :eek:

I won't know how much I accomplished temperature-wise, but it looks like I picked up 2-4 PSI (traffic was too bad to really "play":)). The only thing I regret is having the big Dynomax muffler installed... it's too quiet. :( Oh well, guess I'll swap in a glasspack or something similar somewhere down the road - I really miss the nice sound the 3" glasspack gave me. :{

Any other tips on bringing the EGTs down? I'm sure the exhaust will help, but I also know more will have to be done to use the available power - it really sucks being limited to 1/3 pedal because the pyro is sitting at 1200*. :(

have your exhaust manifold and exhaust housing ported and matched. You would be surprised how much those ports are restriced! :eek: Opening them up and resiausing everything really helps!

The biggest way is to get more air. A new turbo will not only make a nice upgrade, but it will lower egts. Depending on your elevation a PDR hx35 or hx40 work well on our motors.

Porting/polishing would be nice... but I don't know if I'll ever get that motivated. ;) It's all I can do to just keep up on the routine maintenance stuff. :eek:

The turbo upgrade is something I've had in the back of my mind for a while, but the funds aren't available for that right now - gotta put tires and wheels on the truck. I ripped a tire on the Jeep last weekend so it's time for a new set for it, too... $170 per tire, and that's getting them through a friend's shop. :eek::eek::(

In the meantime, I'll probably remove the grille and see if I can do a little creative trimming to try and bring more cool air to the BHAF. May also modify the BHAF/air tube if I get really ambitious... . ;)

How much of a difference will bumping the timing up have on EGTs?
