Hello.
Just replaced the oil pan gasket due to leakage.
I adjust the low/reverse bande due to themanual, and also info from the internet. 8nm, than back of 3 turns.
When i test drive i think its slipper little when a gine it throttle in D, but not in Reverse.
Maybe its imagination, but i think its some slippery.
Slipping in take of is a symptom for slipping in low/reverse or?
But i also see thatit is very different settings, regarding the nomber of turns to back of the screw.
Maybe the transmission is replaces before i buy it, so 3 turns is not correct.

How to properly test for slippage in the bands?

Some suggestions :)

My instructions say 72in lb (8nm) front band 2 1/4, rear band 3 1/4 for all 47RE and 48RE.

But also looking at the table I have the rear band is only for reverse and man- 1st, the front band is for OD-2nd and Man- 2nd.

If reverse is fine I would just leave it alone. Especially if not towing heavy.

So besides reverse the rear band does not really look to matter IMO for most cases of daily driving.

I would suggest spend the $40 on the ATSG book and go over the notes for your year, they are very specific on certain parts and pieces of these units.

I dont really know if having these adjustable bands is really a good thing always seems like they cause more issues when they are messed with IMO.

Thank you.
I re-check the oil level, filled up, and now it seems working great.
I have the ATSG manual, and have also study some movies. Think i have been little interested in the 47RE:)

Yeah mine is currently on the bench, getting there on the rebuild. Almost ready to start rebuilding some of the subassemblies, wont be much longer.

Only service, or will it be rebuild with some aftermarket heavy duty parts, to withstand a tuned engine?
Did you have some forum thread of your reubuild?
Today i replaced the leaking gear shift lever sealing.
Hope i soon have found and fixed all leaks.

Mixed bag, I have a decent set up for sure but nothing too over the top, need to do injectors and a rebuild on the p-pump maybe in 2019, but not looking for anything huge in power mods, I think stock 215hp injectors, and just have my stock pump reworked. Turbo was replaced in 2017 with a new stock unit from Cummins.

On the transmission I had hand fulls of what appeared to be clutch pack debris when I did my first service, I ran it for a while after changing the fluid 2 times. But it was getting bad towards the end. It still drove when I took it out.

On the rebuild I have a better valve body, input and output shafts, decent rebuild kit for the clutch packs and OD unit. Better torque converter. Some of the standard better hardware, but not doing any physical case rework or case mods, there is one pressed in part for the one roller clutch they could rework, but mine seems OK and is pretty tight in the case.

Never started a offical rebuild thread copule smaller threads.

It would have been less expensive to buy a rebuilt unit for sure but I wanted to see what I could make of it, like a lot of us on here its basically just myself to take out, rebuild and get back in, so had to get creative getting it out of the truck, might have to ask a favor to get it back in there.

I am my own warranty as the TDR motto goes, have had my new parts too long and did not get the cores back within 45 days so even that stuff is on me at this point which is more then fair. I knew what I was getting into.

I have 3 more main issues to tackle while its out, oil pan gasket, rebuild transfer case, power steering pump and lines.

I think after looking at the inside of my unit, I need to focus on the externals as well, TPS and throttle valve cable adjustment, I dont think my TVC is working properly and that was part of my transmissions demise. I dont see any sort of adjustment on my cable it references some sort of button you push in and there is a procedure, but mine was either already reworked by someone or just hacked up by someone prior, but that will be 100% before I get this back started up. It is not as per my FSM for sure. Might try to do the throttle bushing service while I have this apart. I have had a new accelator cable to put in for some time, as my linkage is a little sticky at times, its a north east USA truck so most things not reworked are a science project with rust and corrosion. Even though my truck was rebuilt a few years before I got it, some are still original parts and pieces.

Seems to be a nice build Timd32.:)
Is it a o-ring,or a grommet, to seal around the dip stick tube? Or is it depending on the yera of the transmission?

Mine had neither a oring or grommet. But this truck was apart by others a few years back, looks like they tried to silicone it in place, there is no oring in the case it is smooth where the tube goes in, there is a small notch a little way up the tube, will see if a Oring would do anything there when I go to assemble.

I tried to buy a grommet when I got some other parts from Cascade Transmission but I got some odd bearing instead, I returned the bearing never did see the grommet come back in from them, sounded like they are a bit overwhelmed with some medical issues figured was not worth pushing the issue was only a few bucks and I really needed the other stuff which came in correct. Was the only time I saw a grommet listed for sale separate.

The rebuild kit has a grommet that fits pretty nice in the tube bore, but no way your fitting the tube in the bore with that grommet in there, they dont really tell you what exactly all the stuff in the kit is for, just have to know or do your best to figure it out. Im not rebuilding the valve body so some stuff could be for that which is why I dont have a need for everything in the kit.
