Did a tire rotation today on my '03 and saw that the drivers side bearing had noticeable slop in it. I've done a couple 4x4 removals before but never a 4x2. Am I looking at the same fun time I had with the 4x4's? I searched and found these two threads but they deal with 4x4's;

Last issue of the mag in the Shop Floor column Andy did a write up on doing a 4x2 and made the comment, "easily removed".

So any of you 4x2 owners do this job and how easy is it?

Hi Ken,

I don't have the answer you are looking for, but am curious how many miles your '03 has on it?

I am hoping that the sealed bearings in our 2wd trucks will have long service lives.

Hey Mike,

I've got around 123,000 on the truck. 5000 miles ago at the last rotation everything checked out fine. But in that span it went to hell fast. Other side checks out fine but I'll be keeping an eye on it maybe every 1000 miles.

The other front end components are still solid.

Thanks for the info, Ken. I'm only at 47k miles on my '03, so it will hopefully be a long time before I have any front end problems.

I'm only putting on 5k miles each year, and my goal is for this truck to last as long as I do (I'm 39). I don't like the new models with all of the emissions junk on them.

Finally got around to doing my hub. It came apart surprisingly easy. Easier than my 4x4. Anyway in 4 hrs I had it all put back together. But I wound up getting stymied by the elect connector. :eek:

I was wondering how do these come apart? Here's a pic with the red portion slid back, now what????

There seems to be a secondary catch somewhere. This isn't the actual wheel sensor connector but a dummy under the hood.
