brother in law lost 5th gear so i thought in would be the 5th gear nut. turns out the c clip broke on the bottom shaft.

i was showing him the the infamous nut when i twisted it with my fingers (not sure why i even tried) it spun:eek:. so i will have to fix that also.

so my question is, is there a tool for pushing the synchronizer in so i can get the new c clip on? i tried to push it in by hand but it won't go in far enough. #@$%!

it goes in but the springs are holding out on the syncro. if i take the springs out it fits fine. maybe i'm just being a wuss.

do you know a good place to get a new c clip?

The springs hold some little taps that care the detent to hold it in gear. It's very important they are in there and in there correctly. It may be necessary to drive the two roll pins out of the shifting fork and remove the whole gear assembly to get it back together if you already have the springs out of it.

You can try to find an OEM snap ring or you can go down to the auto parts and buy a pair of thinner ones from a generic snap ring set that are the correct diameter and just put two on there.
