5vr hitch?

I just upgraded from a 98 2500 qc sb gas to a 2002 2500 qc sb diesel. I pull a 99 Jayco eagle 5vr 28ft. The original truck had a reese15k hitch. I will be installing the same hitch on the new truck. This hitch is the stationary model and the trailer has an extended box for clearance. Is there any advantage or disadvantage to the sliding hitch by reese for the short beds? Would I be better off w/slider? The dealer I purchased the trailer from said I was better off w/my current set-up. Any comments would be appreciated

If the extended pin box on your 5ver provides sufficient clearance with the short bed, why mess with the sliding hitch? My 2 cents' worth is that I would only get the sliding hitch if I absolutely needed it. If it isn't there, it can't break or fail.

We went from a 94 long bed to a 2001 sh q cab. Our extended pin is about 10". The hitch was old so I got a new sliding hitch. I have a dime sized touch mark where I touched the cab once. I now watch with care, and avoid getting out to slide the hitch back by backing and moving again. I kind of like having it for a tight spot, but have'nt used it. We have now towed 70% of the 38000 mi on the truck.

In addition to providing greater clearance between the cab and the 5er when making sharp turns, the slider hitch also provides greater tailgate to 5er clearance when on uneven terrain because the pivot point is farther back. If your 5er to bed clearance is marginal, it's another reason to get the slider. Other than the extra cost and slightly more weight, the slider doen's hurt anything. I have a slider on by LWB because I had it on my first truck that was a SWB. I have never slid it back, except to test it out.

With the short turning raduis of the short bed you can get in a lot of trouble fast. I have slid mine a couple of times ( usually doing piroettes getting out of a gas station ), never kissed the cab and thus have not had the cab to the operating room to straighten out or a cab corner trans plant. You MAY never need it but it might be too late if you find out you did.



Get the 4way rocker if you do not already have it.

I believe all you would need to purchase would be the slider as you can reuse the 5th wheel part that bolts to the pedistal base.
