6.7 Reliability Poll

As I get closer and closer to dropping $31K of my money on a 2007. 5 year-end-clearance 3500 SRW QC with the 6. 7/G56, I'm submitting this poll for some piece of mind as well as what to expect.



Based on my previous posts about the 6. 7, it might suprise some I'm taking the plunge and getting one. Getting this truck $14,500 under sticker has something to do with it.



"Problems" mean check engine lights, trips to the dealer for warranty work, etc.



Hope this makes sense... . if it doesn't I'm sure someone will let me know.

I have made only one trip to dealer and that was at 3200 miles on the clock... . Just make sure before you drive off the lot that it has the most recent re-flash/update and that the "OIL CHANGE REQUIRED" message indicator is set... .



From what my dealer told me as well as Dave smith, they said that the oil change required message is set to come on once you reach the set mileage spec. They told me there are no sensors. Just monitors driving habits.

The Check Engine Light will come on for many reasons most are minor alarms some can be potential issues. So far I have had no serious issues. Since the current Flash 18-033-07 REV. B there has been ZERO catalyst error messages which as it turned our were sensor errors not actual DPF issues. It is a great truck. The Speed Auto is excellent. the Exhaust Break helps a lot and can be made more agressive in the two haul position. I have almost 25,000 miles on mine in less than three months of operation. The EVIC demands oil changes at about the 3000 mile interval regardless if you are doing highway or city miles. Be careful and use only ULSD, it keeps the injectore and the exhaust aftertreatment equipment clean.

I have as of this date 20,000 miles on mine, zero troubles so far.

A couple of oil changes, and fuel filters, no codes !

32k as of this week, engine light has came on and went off a couple of times but so far so good !!!! I sure like it better than my 05 I had...

4200 so far no problems, no flashes, no codes since 06/01/07 delivery.

Love the truck.

I have been to shop twice for the code p245a egr cooler valve. First time was trucks fault, second was techs fault. I have it again but I am going to wait untill they realize there is another flash out. I love the truck. The mileage is not what I am used to from my 04 model six speed ctd. I would trade again if I had to do again. 13000 miles

Yooper39, I'm sure you will love it and dont wait too long with that discount on the line. The only issue's were programing which, per posts on TDR, have been taken care of.



My C&C is not as powerful as my 04. 5 but love it anyway, need it for comercial use, and have not had any issues with it yet. You will love the exhaust brake and it will save you money not using your brakes as much. If you have any repair after warranty is up, and make sure you get it with the Dodge extended warranty, your total savings on the truck should cover your expenses and still have some money left with that huge discount.

Getting closer

The reason I'm getting this particular truck with a stick is because it's a GREAT deal! I think my biggest hesistation on this whole thing is the manual transmission after hearing so many great things about the 68RFE. I've never driven a G56. How is it to drive? Does it shift well and allow you to keep up with traffic? Or is it slow and awkward shifting like an old work truck?



Can you comfortably cruise at 75-80 on the freeway with it?



Until I ran accross this deal, I was either going to by my buddy's 2002 up North or order a new Mega Cab 2500 with an auto... but this is just too good to pass up!

I've got an 08, 5500 on order, it was built Aug 1 and is still sitting in Mexico and hasn't been shipped... I can only assume they are on hold for some reason related to the truck, or safety equipment and DC can't decide how to either fix them or if they want the dealer to fix them... .

It was entered as a sold order back in July before pricing was available, that's all I know.....

I have a '07 3500 C&C w/ G56 and it is nice to drive. This is a big transmission, so you're not going to speed shift it. The only thing I don't like is going into reverse, but it has gotten better as it wears in. My truck just hit 10,000 mi. . What axle ratio does the truck your looking at have ? Mine has 3:73 and it gets better mileage than the '99 I had w/4:10.

'07. 5, 6. 7, 68RFE, 3500, DRW, 4WD, cabin heater, gauges, w/18-033-07 Rev. A flash before pickup at dealer (Dishman) on June 14, '07.



2255 miles on odometer.



Zero problems. No alert signals, notices, whatever on overhead display.

The votes say "9" for G56 but that I voted by mistake when I set the poll up. Number should be 8. I don't have my truck yet... it's on the way... so I shouldn't vote.



I'm surprised to see that the auto and manuals are both exactly 25%. I would have thought the stick would be a little more reliable based on a less complex drivetrain and one less computer control module in the mix.

Remember that the simple problems/no problems format does not allow for shades of gray.



Just my opinion, but if the problem(s) was something that was new-design related, was revealed by owner field experience and then successfully addressed by Dodge/Cummins ("flash", etc. ), I do not consider that to be currently "a problem".



If I had picked my truck up 2 days sooner, which I could have done, I would have missed getting the 18-033-07 Rev. A flash, which had just become available. if that had been the case, I might easily have had the problems that the flash was intended to correct.



It might be more useful for decision-making, to consider how many of the reported problems were NOT satisfactorily remedied.



There are always bugs in new designs,... what matters is that they are found and exterminated.

I have to agree with Wolfe on the problems issue, there are a lot of small issue's I have with the G56.

1st is the idle take off when engaging the clutch, on my NV5600 it will not stall the engine when starting out in 2nd at a idle with a 3K,lb boat behind it but with the G56 I have to start out in 1st with a GVW of 10K or it will stall. Even when I first test drove the G56 W/O a bed on the frame it stalled on me and embarrassed me with my rep. in the passenger side. My NV5600 will pull the boat out of the water and up the ramp with out touching the throttle in 2nd, which I love the looks I get when the others are revving their trucks to get their boats out of the water (due to Auto) and I just move seemingly effortlessly up the ramp.

2nd is the RPM range between the taller gears, I dont like the clutch slippage feel when shifting at high RPM from fifth to sixth or from forth to fifth. It is not the clutch slipping but just the RPM when reengaging the clutch, I believe it is around 2400 RPM from 3000 when shifting which is OK because I will like it when pulling max CGVWR which I have not as yet done. My NV5600 feels better when going from 3000 RPM to 2000 rpm in the taller gears but I do have a little lag between the gears when pulling max CGVWR which I seldom feel because I keep mine in 5th when pulling grades loaded to keep the EGT down at the higher RPM range.

Would I buy it again now I know the difference? Yes. And would I complain about it? Yes. Would I buy a Ford or GM truck? Hell no. The poll may be reflecting these small issues as Wolfe has suggested

All, I voted as having a problem, the p245a egr cooler CEL. One trip to the dealer, and 45 minutes later with the latest flash - it has been good. This is minor issue in my mind. My guess is that when the 08's roll out and get in owners hands, this % will be much lower.



2110 miles, and no issues, 18. 5 mpg open hiway with 1k miles. Great truck.
