Remember that the simple problems/no problems format does not allow for shades of gray.

Just my opinion, but if the problem(s) was something that was new-design related, was revealed by owner field experience and then successfully addressed by Dodge/Cummins ("flash", etc. ), I do not consider that to be currently "a problem".

If I had picked my truck up 2 days sooner, which I could have done, I would have missed getting the 18-033-07 Rev. A flash, which had just become available. if that had been the case, I might easily have had the problems that the flash was intended to correct.

It might be more useful for decision-making, to consider how many of the reported problems were NOT satisfactorily remedied.

There are always bugs in new designs,... what matters is that they are found and exterminated. ;)

Good point... 4 choices leads to oversimplification, but I wasn't looking for precise statistical analysis, just an indicator of how the 6. 7 is doing overall. This poll increased my piece of mind for the truck I'm in the process of buying, and hopfully provided a good piece of info for other TDR members. :)

I wonder what the same poll would look like for a 6. 4 or 6. 0 Powerstroke? :{

p245a as well, came and went before I had a chance to visit the dealer. Hasnt had a CEL since. I see this as an annoying software bug, or poor design of the EGR circuit, not really a major problem.

... . i'm rapidly closing in on 1k miles,no problems thus far, overhead computer showing mileage continues to rise... . as high as 19. 6..... averaging 16. 4-16. 7 combined... i have a 35 mile commute each way to work,25miles of hiway, and 10 mile of lights and stop and go... . i'm pretty impressed with the truck overall... if i could change ANYTHING on the truck,it would be the primary color... . i would go with the bright silver... . but,i'm learning to live with the crystal black pearlcoat..... ;)..... just happy to have the 6. 7/68RFE combo... . tom:cool:

OH!!!... i forgot to mention,i took mine back to the dealer for clearance light installation, while there they did a "snap test" i think it was called, and i found out the truck was labeled wrong from the factory as "Not meeting California Emissions"they did a series of tests,re-flashed and RE_LABELED the truck as "Meets Emissions for ALL 50 States until 2010"... looks just like a factory label too... !!!

Took the plunge

Well I took the plunge and bought it. The truck is at the factory and will be shipped to Florida where my brother will pick it up for me and keep it until we PCS back to the States this Spring.

Ended up getting it for $31. 5K out the door. That and my wife's insistence (she didn't want me to get an older truck) is the reason why I didn't get my buddies second gen up North that I wrote about in an earlier post. Heck, that's less than what a lot of people pay for a half ton!

Damn the torpedos and full speed ahead with the 6. 7! I hope I'm one of the lucky ones!

Dodge has never let me down yet!

Hey Yooper, Thanks for for being there for us and stay out of harms way. I'm glad to hear you got the truck and hope your brother doesn't put too many miles on it. What is the exchange rate as of today? I served in Hanau Germany in the late 70's which is near Frankfurt, and used to rebuild the 2-1/2 ton trucks for K-town, this is why I like driving a manual trans Diesel, if it wasn't for that I would probably have gotten the auto because I wouldn't have known better. I know you will like the G56 trans and after a few miles towing heavy, you will feel much better about your choice of trans.

Thanks

Thanks. :) The exchange rate is horrible right now: $. 68 to one EURO. #@$%! It's not a good time to buy something on the German economy right now.

I'm looking forward to the G56. I'll see how it goes, but I may put 3. 42 gears in it a year or two down the road, as long it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to do it.

2 Months and 4K, 80% towing 11. 000 pounds in, up and around the mountians in Colorado. 1 brief flash of the engine light was all that came about. We are at 16 to 17 mpg in own and 12 to 15 towing at legal speeds. All stock and will probably remain that way for a long while. Not looking forward to the first service though.

07. 5 3500 Laramie 4X4 Quad 6. 7 68RFE

450 miles and no problems. :-laf

The 68RFE transmission is awesome! Combined with the exhaust brake this is a huge improvement over my '05.

Mileage so far is running 14. 5 on the computer. Much too soon to give an idea of actual, but from the fuel tank reading I'd say around 15 MPG is correct. Not even as good as my '05 dually which is sad, and a little down on power. My '05 has a chip, so maybe not a fair comparision. Comapred to my '05 when it was stock the power is definately up.

BTW, does anyone know how to kick up the idle speed?

Unless your not going to tow, the 3:73 will be just perfect. The low 1st gear will start you rolling and the others you will find within comfort range when shifting. The G56 is better than the NV5600 at 5th and 6th due to closer RPM range when accelerating. Your RPM,s will be at 2100 at 70 MPH in 6th which I have found to be a perfect fit for when you want to pass and the ability to pull slight grades without constantly downshifting when you have a load, also dont forget to keep your EGT down by keeping up the RPM's in 5th, when pulling steep grades at about 2400-2500 RPM. That way your CTD will breath better keeping your Exhaust Gas Temperature within proper range.

25% problems , have we got a 6. 0 ford in our midst ?

I don't think so. I don't want to be pollyanna about this, but it seems like 90% of the problems are associated with the DFP and the software that triggers a regen. While not an insignificant problem, DPF is something that is a known technology. Also, with the depth of engineering required to implement to new emissions systems I don't think it's surprising that we have a few bugs.

What we haven't seen is a rash of hard failures like injectors, etc. . I think it's way to early to suggest that we have a Ford 6. 0 engine problem that was enormous in scope.
