I read a post about replacing the lower bushing in the steering column. I made the bushing, with some modifications, & installed it. I didn't think it would make that much of a difference , but it did... My 96 4x4 is alot better. Was thinking of all the options & $$$$$$$$$ to improve my steering , but i can live with this fix. .

My 98 with 211k is Real tight.

My 02 with 45k, and new : Trac bar, ball joints, steering box , center link, and tie rod ends is still sloppier than my 98. Think a DSS Will clean it up alittle though.

Why am i reading the 98-99 steering is better? whats different?

I traded in a 1500 Ram that drove great. As soon as I left the dealer and started out the highway I commented how this thing steered like crap. Well almost 9 years and 100,000 miles later it still steers like crap. steering box, DSS bar, adj. track bar, shocks

In the past 2 years,2 track bars,2 rotors, upper and lower ball joints both sides. anti sway bars and a stabelizer shock. Still felt funny. That all occured in the matter of 15,000 hiway miles. Put new tires on in the spring and that made it worse!!!! I found the best fix is to drink a dozen beers before you drive. The problem goes away.

165,000 miles on the o. Ball joints, couple sets of shocks, just installed my DSS and it helped a little not like the magic fix I was looking for. So I am saving my change for the next fix. I thought only you 4x4 guys had this problem!

In 60K miles on the '02, I had installed a set of U and L ball joints, steering stabilizer shock, replaced the drag link with DSS Solid Steel's adjustable track bar, and the DSS steering stabilizer bracket. There still was some play in the steering column shaft at the bottom, and I then replaced the lower bushing with the Delrin bushing. Finally, comfortable steering!!!!

1999 2wd. I haven't had any real "problems", steering just a bit looser than I would like. Put in new Borgeson shaft and new BD stabilizer kit which have improved it some.

I didn't see the information contained in this TSB. It is not yet listed on the Dodge Ram Info website. Can you tell us what it advises? Thanks.
