Sears Diehard Platinum P2, group 65. They go on sale several timeas a year for much less then MSRP, but you have to look often and act quickly when they do.
Just last year, my P2 cost $153 each online, picked up at store.

Second choice would be the Deka Xtreme Start AGM.

Sears Diehard Platinum P2, group 65. This is what I have also, only about six months old so don't know if I'm happy about them yet. My OEM's lasted the first ten years and were still strong when I removed them last fall.

HHuntitall says he has had good luck with the Oreilly AGM's, I believe they are Exides.

Actually I am pretty sure that the Oreillys AGM are a rebranded Deka/East Penn AGM.
I looked into them before I got the P2 for such a good price. They are a solid second choice.
Also, if you have access to CAT(erpillar)batteries, they are also made by Deka/East Penn.

I, too, bought Die Hard Platinums in the big sale a couple months ago. Haven't installed them yet - waiting for warm weather (and curious how long these OEMs will keep chugging along!)

Thanks everyone for your input. Believe it or not, I do not have a Sears near by. I will probably buy through Batteries Plus. I'm looking at the X2 Power SL165AGMDP. Thanks again.

A buddy of mine has a side by side with an excide AGM battery... . its mounted on its side... and the date code suggests its been installed for at least 4 years... I wouldn't believe it would function that way but it seems to be fine... My Goldwing also has AGM battery and I'm pleased with it... however, I've had no problem with Costco batteries in my truck and over the years they've lasted as long as the OE batteries. .

I have Costco batt's and have had not one problem with them. Im kind of into batteries with our off grid power system at our house just food for thought about AGM batteries!!!!! they are very sensitive as to how they are charged this is why most off grid systems don't use them and they don't last as long in the charging/discharging cycles as do flooded Cell batts.

As with all gelled and sealed units, AGM batteries are sensitive to overcharging. These batteries can be charged to 2. 40V/cell (and higher) without problem; however, the float charge should be reduced to between 2. 25 and 2. 30V/cell (summer temperatures may require lower voltages). Automotive charging systems for flooded lead acid often have a fixed float voltage setting of 14. 40V (2. 40V/cell), and a direct replacement with a sealed unit could spell trouble by exposing the battery to undue overcharge on a long drive.

Since I quit using my truck for work everyday, and it would sit for a week or so, the original batteries have been discharging enough that it would not start. Not bad for ten years and never being touched. After I took them out, I put them on the charger individually and load tested them. One is still good and the other is no good.

It will be interesting to see how long the AGM batteries last me compared to the original acid flooded ones. I thought I would give them a try since we use dozens of them at work on our electronic telemetry gas well units. Those are solar-charged and work great during the longer-day months, but will often die after a few cloudy/rainy/snowy days, or when the panels get covered with snow. Often they may go dead when it's 20 below zero, but we've seen no freezing or ill effects to them.

I'm hoping that since these AGMs are sold for my truck that Exide has things figured out so they last. They do have a 48 month total replacement warranty.

Thanks for this information. I have some of the Die Hard Platinum's in my truck. I ruined a set last summer. Had my truck camper on the truck connected to shore power. It was on there for about a few days while we prepped for an upcoming trip. I have a modern 3-way charge controller in the camper, but it still "boiled" the AGM batteries. I went out to the truck on the morning we were to leave and found a spout of acid coming up from the passenger side battery! Needless to say our trip was a little delayed and my wallet a lot lighter!

For you guys who have the Die Hard Platinum P2, are they a direct replacement? Did they just drop right in and all the cables reached without problems? What are the dimensions of these batteries?

JJPage is correct. . they are a drop in replacement, even easier since the DO have a handle.

This is right from the webpage-- http://www.sears.com/shc/s/ProductDisplay?partNumber=02850065000P&storeId=10153&catalogId=12605
Dimensions:
Group Size: 65
Height (in. ): 7. 4
Length (in. ): 11. 8
Width (in. ): 7. 2
Item Weight (lbs. ): 60. 0

That being said, they are on sale until tomorrow for $198, though be aware a few time a year they go on sale for even less, sometimes $179 or even $158, BUT you have to be ALWAYS checking the price DAILY because the better deals last for 24 hours or even less.

ACTUALLY, I just looked a little closer at the special offers valid right now at Sears... you can get an addtional $40 off of a $350 quto parts purchase and even $70 off of a $400 auto parts purchase, so you could add a tire pressure gauge or something for $4, and get the two Platinum batteries for $198 - $35 = $163 each Oo... . dam good deal if you want the Platinums. Check out the special offer section on the right side of the link I sent you.

You can order online and pick-up in the store, but be sure to get 2 with identical or very similar date codes when you go to pick them up!!

If you don't happen to live near a store, you might be able to get the free shipping deal, but I don't know if you can combine offers.
